Heisenberg Might Have Been Here

Posted 11-06-2010 at 08:05 PM by IgnoreThisBarrel

Well, I made some major improvements to the mesh and code, although I can't get some of the animations to work.

Added features are:
Working, animated, gear. Although they look like bent toothpicks.
Landing points and updated center of gravity so the Heisenberg can now land.
Hover thrusters.
Custom exhaust textures (although I can't get the ship to use them).
Main docking port now retractable.
Heat shielded hangar bay, large enough to hold a small...

Heisenberg Development - Progress

Well I got a considerable amount of things done, including the base model. I still need to add more details and, *shudder*, textures.

Anyway, here's a prototype of my ridiculously unrealistic ship. Enjoy!

Controls: As usual for main, retro and attitude thrust. Press "k" for hab truss rotation.

What I plan in future versions:
Better mesh
Textures
Landing gear/struts (the Heisenberg is also fun to fly as a ridiculously unrealistic...

Heisenberg Development - Meshing

So like most Orbitnauts, I've tried my hand at making ships, and like quite a few of those Orbitnauts, became very lazy and/or "forgot" about the project.

This time however, I've decided to create a ship that will get past the first few minutes of modeling; the DSV Heisenberg. It's a Spacecraft3 vessel, which although extremely elongated can still manouvre pretty well.

EDIT: I managed to work around the thruster problem. Now I'll start texturing, provided I figure...

Thinking of better thread titles

Posted 11-01-2010 at 06:26 PM by jedidia

Seriously, look at three of my four latest blog entries, and it can really make you wonder how unimaginative a man can be... But I allways sucked at naming things. I'll try to do better in the future none the less!

Anyways, as every month my connection died a rather rapid death after the twentieth, with the last 6 days of the month being effectively in the grave. Precise like a swiss clock it came back on the first, so I can post again. I really have to have a chat with my provider,...

Trying something different

Posted 10-26-2010 at 08:30 AM by jedidia

Of course, everything is not as easy as I thought it would be, beginning with the purely mathematical problems described in my last post, and now continuing with problems in the implementation: It turns out that my whole calculation assuming a legion of spherical cows suffers a problem not uncommon for overly generalised solutions, which is insufficient accuracy. Although the formulae seem to work more or less well, the error margins for a burn timing are terrifyingly small when racing around at...
