Postbit link to post in showthread format
A link in the postbit or otherwise well accessible place that contains a link in showthread format instead of the current showpost variant
I'd like to see a link like the current #1234 in the right hand top corner, but carrying a link to the post in the format of showthread instead of the currently provided showpost one.
Linking specific posts this way is a great way to share a post in context of the thread. In my humble opinion it will also save bandwidth as probably more than half of all visited showpost links are followed by loading the thread anyway.
An added bonus would be to (optionally) show the post in the middle of the page and break with the regular way of counting page numbers.

Not difficult. I normally prefer the showthread format too, but I'd like to hear if other users have objections before changing the link.

Vertical alignment is more difficult because we normally just use the html internal link format. Not worth the effort IMHO

Let me explain the last two quotes.
Let the end result be a thread page in which 9 posts precede the actual post and 10 follow it. Upon loading, the browser is instructed to jump the the post in question with the regular html inpage link.
This would mean that in most cases, one would end up on page 3.2 or 5.8 when counting from post 0. Therefor, breaking the traditional counting of page numbers. Unless you are so awesome as to actually display 4.8 as current page :D

Sorry, I still don't get it. For example, this link http://www.orbiter-forum.com/showthr...=9308#post9308 shows the correct page numbering at the top and bottom of the page. What's broken there? The link in that format would be the one you get in the top right hand corner of the postbit.

I think TSPenguin thinks about making any post that has sufficient number of post afterward and beforehand to be in the middle when such a link is provided, for example, with 15 ppp, post #134 would have 7 posts before and 7 posts after, resulting in page starting with post #127 and ending with #141, but for even number of ppp, it would have to be for example 14 posts before and 15 posts after for 30 ppp. I think it would only add confusion, but I'd need to check something like this in practice.
As for showpost vs. showthread, I'm "meh", because I usually get from the link only the post ID (e.g. for [post=###]link to post[/post], etc.).

Thanks orb, that makes sense now. I won't be implementing that particular feature.

The page thingy would really only be an added bonus. And given the hassle to make it configurable, I only included it to make a proper feature request.
Orb, this link is meant to be posted to the general public or other people unable or unwilling to handle anything but a pointer device.
