You don't need D3D9.
Get higher, in the 10-60 km range.

Thanks Ripley, you can really tell the hi-res difference. I have been running with the low res version for over a week without realising, I had to reinstall Orbiter and forgot to copy the new textures over I was looking at gattispilot's pictures and thinking that looks about right compared to mine.

BTW, while taking those screenshots (CTRL+PrintScreen), I always got CTDs with D3D9 R1 as soon as I clicked on the "take snapshot" button.
Before submitting it as a bug, can someone try and see if you get it as well?

Is there a latitude limit to the hires textures? Things seem to suddenly get vague north of Loch Lomond. Slainte! hic...
