The mission basically consists of orbital tugging. The M-II on flt# 5 brings up a partially fueled (about 75%) Tranzit tug and docks it to the station. After docking, the tug has about 60-65% of fuel remaining.

Each tug mission (Flt# 6 and 8) brings up two modules, mounted on a Smerch tug. The Smerch performs the intercept burn, and cancels out relative velocity when at a distance of ~30 km from the station. The two modules are then jettisoned.

At this juncture, the Tranzit tug comes into play. It treks the remaining 30 km to the modules, docks with both of them (it has 2 docking ports), brings them to the station and attaches the modules to the required locations. The maximum fuel that can be used for this whole tugging is 25% of the total.

Mission 8 is also where the Tranzit is used last. So, in this flight, the tug also has to be deorbited into the Pacific Ocean. ~10% of the fuel is required for this deorbit burn.

Feel free to ask any other questions.

Dear Mr. Castor,

Your proposed mission is very interesting and we are confident we can execute it. Nevertheless, due to mission complexity, we must undertake a major analysis effort. Our technical lead, Mr. G. I. Raffe will contact you with detailed questions.

Also please note that due to recent reorganization, your new billing contact will be:

Ms. Alice Shark, Esq.
500 Sea World Dr

Note: PhantomCruiser, the third mission has been released. Download the package from the first page.

Date of launch of third mission: May 30 (Saturday)
Date of completion of mission: June 4 (Wednesday)

Flight notes:

After more than 2 months in free drift, the station's orbit has changed drastically and the station itself might possess some angular velocity. The XR5 shall rendezvous and grapple the station following which the modules have to be so attached as shown in the example scenario. The station must not be integrated.

Following the attachment of the docking port, the XR5 may dock to the station, but crew entry is not permitted (life support not available). The station's orbit has to be corrected by the XR5, preferably with the hover engines.

Re: Mission #8

Dear Mr. Castor,

I'm happy to inform you that K1SS LLC. is able to undertake mission #8.

Our analysis of the mission shows that delta-v requirements for the tug are about 600m/s in total:

- circularization of 250km parking orbit: ~200m/s
- interception burn: ~140m/s
- velocity matching with OFSS: ~250m/s

Based on this, we believe that the smaller DM tug is a more fitting tool for this mission than the Smerch tug. Our analysis shows that use of Smerch tug, in addition to raising costs, is actually detrimental to the mission, as the heavy Smerch tug is very difficult to maneuver. For this reason, we request changing the mission hardware to use DM tug instead of Smerch tug.

Since the OFSS Consortium has already purchased the Smersh tug, we will cover the costs of purchasing the extra DM tug, if the OFSS Consortium agrees to sell us Smerch at a reduced price.

Sincerely,
Koko G. Orilla, Ph. D.

We'll also need a backup for #10, I'll be in Norway from June 29 to July 26 and unable to fly during this time.

Note: Artlav and Athena, the fourth mission has been released. Download the package from the first page.

Date of launch of fourth mission: June 22 (Sunday)
Date of completion of mission: June 27 (Friday)

Flight Notes:

In this mission, the XR2 will deliver the CMG to the station. In addition, the cargo bay also has extra scram and main fuel.

The XR2 is to rendezvous and dock with the APAS port of the station. The station must be integrated shortly afterwards. Do not attempt to enter the station, as lifesupport capabilities are not present. Using the battery power of the command module, open up the doors of the airdock to expose the inner dock.

The XR2 then has to undock, following which an EVA takes place. The prime objective of the EVA would be to grapple the CMG in the XR2 payload bay, and to attach it to the inner dock (of the airdock module).

The XR2 has to redock once again with the station. The airdock cover is closed once again. Now switch focus to the CMG vessel, set pitch=0; roll=0; yaw=0; and press 3 to activate attitude control. Wait for the station's attitude to stabilize.

Next, the station's orbit has to be corrected. For this, adjust the values of pitch, yaw and roll in the CMG till the XR2 is pointing in the right direction. After corrections:

Orbital altitude = 800 km ( 10 km)
Inclination = 64 ( 0.4)

After all mission objectives are done, keep the XR2 docked to the station and post the final scenario. The XR2 landing scenario will be given to you once the fifth mission is complete.

If you have any doubts with the above mentioned steps, please don't hesitate to ask.
