That is the plate for the Sky City, due in a month or so. Yeah we only get the darkness but not the shadow, mobs don't burn up anymore and still the shadow is, well, very buggy.

I'm helping with the SkyCity project that Eccentrus is currently leading. Part of what I'm currently working on will be the city university. I've been prototyping in creative mode what I'd like to do and I have some screenshots I thought I'd share. Nothing is finished, and that turret will not be where it is now in the actual version: I wanted to try building it without needing too much extra infrastructure.

This first picture shows the front of the university, the prototype east wing, and a prototype turret tower. The latter is probably not as tall as it will be when built for real, but I was primarily interested in just getting the look and feel down. Don't mind the purple wool, those are distance markers so I know how much space I'm using.


A view of the entrance hall. No flooring in, but I suspect it will probably be wool (carpet) with the university seal on it. The grand staircase is in the background.


A view of a lounge, again with no flooring. Will have tables, seats, chests, books, and the like to make it feel comfy when I get it finished on Hielor's server.


A view of the classroom inside the turret. As of now, the university will have three departments: engineering, astronomy, and ecology. Various classrooms and laboratories will be built for each. I'm aiming for there to be actual instructional value in visiting, such as instructions for building a BUD mechanism or so forth.



Obviously this building will require a lot of clay, so donations will be welcome! And, as usual, comments and suggestions also welcome!

Well, Arrowstar, the oceans around our island is still have its supply of clays. I have mastered the art of deep underwater mining while helping the Batman making his Wayne manor.

I have a couple stacks of bricks. I'm willing to dig up clay, but I'll only use so much of my coal and so many shovels.

I will take you up on that offer. You're free to donate as many (or few) coals, clay, and bricks as you want. I'll provide iron shovels for you since you'd be helping. I'll probably need at least a double chest full of red bricks to start, and that translates to 4 double chests of clay balls. I already have just under 2 double chests of clay and I'll be working on getting more soon. Why don't you send me a PM, Nick, and we can talk about this more there. Let me know what you think.

Eccentrus: I've been hitting up the local swamps since those are easier and I can see the clay on the dynmap, but as soon as I run out of close swamps, I'll hit the seabed. Btw, you should know I've only been collecting clay in order to kill time while the upper platform gets sorted and a correct starting point is created. After that happens, I'll go to work on the upper platform.

If anyone else wants to donate clay or bricks to the university, please let me know.

Thanks, Eccentrus. Those columns you see are three blocks of air apart, which means people can just grab slabs and start filling in the gaps very quickly. It probably wouldn't take more than an hour or two for everything I've outlined in to be filled in.

I can't connect to the server, it seems. Tells me it failed to verify my username on every try. Minecraft login works as usual.
