NASA has a job. It's called Orion.

It was part of a tour when Enterprise and the SCA was on display at the 1983 Paris Air Show. Exhibit number for the SCA/OV-101 at the show was 376. On the way back to the US, the SCA did a tour of Germany, Italy, England and Canada.

Well, how did they get the shuttle over the Atlantic? The range while carrying a shuttle is around 2000 km according to the NASA fact sheet.

Enterprise is much lighter than a regular orbiter. Also, the ferry flight went up the east coast then through Canada, Greenland, Iceland and England.

The move, which was originally scheduled for today (April 23), has been delayed due to weather. The flight is now expected to take place this week, though NASA officials it won't occur before Wednesday (April 25).

Yeah, over the northern territories is always the shortest patch of ocean to cross over. They'll be over land most of that way. So even if they run short of fuel. There isn't too far of a place to find some airstrip to fuel them.

It's more like a small side job as a remain of the "golden era" of the Constellation program.

Going to the Moon is a far greater task than anything the shuttle did, besides the ISS and Hubble.

They don't go to the moon as far as I know. All that exists is talk about an unmanned trip. Another stunt after Ares 1-X if you ask me. Apollo 8 light, half a decade later. What happens after the big unmanned show? Lunar Lander? Funding?

I think that NASA can be happy to put Orion unmanned into low earth orbit at all, before SpaceX does do so manned with Dragon. Voices in Washington then might ask valid questions.

But I don't blame NASA. I blame politicians. NASA is forced to play in water pools already for years sadly.

Florida Today: Enterprise targeting Wednesday ferry flight:
Quote:
NASA hopes to ferry the space shuttle orbiter prototype Enterprise to New York City on Wednesday morning, weather permitting.

Managers met this afternoon to review forecasts and decided to tentatively plan for a Wednesday morning departure from Dulles International Airport, where Enterprise waits atop a 747 carrier aircraft.

The ferry flight to John F. Kennedy International Airport is expected to occur between 9:30 a.m. and 1 1:30 a.m. and include flyovers of city landmarks including the Statue of Liberty.

The ferry flight’s timing will be confirmed Tuesday morning if forecasts remain stable, according to a NASA spokesman.
