Armageddon Shuttle/X-71 - Orbiter-Forum

I have heard about the Armageddon Shuttle/X-71, but I also read that it got taken off the orbit hanger. If anyone still has the mod would they be kind enough to post it here or PM it to me?

If someone has the said X-71, I saw the movie myself. Awesome. Maybe if someone had the talent, they could make the VC for it. A 2D panel and a 3D one. All buttons working too.

Do you have permission from the copyright holders?
If not, it depends on how they handle their copyrights, someone could be supported or sued.
If I was you I'd try to contact them and get written permission before making such addon.

With this addon, the legal issues are not only about the Armageddon movie makers,(I wouldn't worry about that kind of copyright stuff though) but there was a lot of dispute over who created the X-71 addon that used to be on Orbit-Hangar.(probably the reason it's gone)
I think it would be best for someone to start from scratch, rather than distribute the old one.(which I believe is what you were talking about anyways) And personally, I'd say screw the copyright. I find it really unlikely that anyone would care if you recreated the spacecraft in a space sim and even if they did care, it's not like they'd really be able to do much. Besides, with this particular addon, you're basically making a shuttle with a fancy paintjob anyways.

You're best bet is probably to alter the stock shuttle or pester the SSU guys into making one.

With the first option you have even more issues if you don't ask permission, and I highly doubt the second option would get anywhere. (although I didn't expect the guys who are on the SSU team to actually make a development team for the shuttles

)
The first option IS a pretty simples solution though.

If such a shuttle was made state of the art realism, I'd say it would worth it.
But as I see it, it is just a vessel from a very unrealistic movie.
If I was going to risk my neck with copyright issues, I would prefer to do it with a simulation of Le Petite Price instead of Armageddon shuttle, but that's just me.

At least Le Petite Prince is kind of a classic from my childhood that is worth remembering.

But that's why we want it in Orbiter! We want to save it from the horrible trap known as Armageddon physics! It deserves better!

Now we only need a strange looking asteroid that crosses the moon's Orbit in the right moment and hits earth (if you don't blow it up). That will be hard to calculate.

If you want movement of the Armadillo like in the movie, you're probably going to need to either increase the mass of the asteroid to unrealistic amounts or code the vehicle to stay on the surface without flying off. Also, you'd need a spherical asteroid(again, unrealistic) unless you get MeshLand involved.

About the Copyright: Aren't there Star Wars and Star Trek addons at OH? So copyright with the movie guys shouldn't be a problem.
