This is the finished dome complete with transparent windows.

Progredients... (Programes used in it's construction, I just made that up)
Wings3D
Paint Shop Pro 8
MS Paint
DDS converter
Notepad

This is just a basic, stand alone dome that sits next to the Brighton Beach base on the moon, simply as an addon for it. It hasn't any compatibility issues as it's just a standard mesh and texture install with a most basic config file that places it on the moon.

You can place the dome wherever you like by editting the
ORBITER/CONFIG/MOON/BASE/Dome.cfg or use it to compliment your own base setup.

It's a little tester for feedback as my next little project is undecided... But I'd like to do a
larger base, perhaps directed at the Arrow, with animations.

I hope you enjoy this little addon and any feedback would be great.

Thankyou.

UPDATE NOTICE...

This base now has a breathable enviroment. My special thanx to Tedson for creating the file that makes this possible.
However, you will need dansteph's, Universsal MMU 2.0 to make it work.

Wings3D has also got a bucky dome (GeoDome). Re: plants - there may be minor conflicts around here on what plants should be given priority, so I think overall PennyBlack made a wise choice of not including them.

I like the design, would make nice meteor protection for historical sites on the moon. Apollo, Surveyor, Luna, etc.

Ooh, and we could make them detachable\launchable, and put them on the side of ships and move them from planet to planet.

Wait...

LOL seriously though, I like the idea. Looks good! Plans in the future to make them a UMMu breathable area?

I love earth like habitats in alien enviroments and in the vacume of space and was inspired by the Valley Forge addon. I stared at those domes for ages thinking one day I could replicate one. I'm happy about the release but admittingly, there's always something else one could throw in. But it's early days and I'm happy about the responces.

The next one I'm working one will have vegitation, but even a single plant can increase mesh file size alot as I found, so I was thinking more like privit or bushes that can be presented with simple meshes wrapped with a good texture. I've worked out how to do Ivy and trailing plants via transparency, but trees are proving a major pain. I've looked at 3ds models online, plants and trees, but have to say they are to complex for me at the mo and want to keep to creating original meshes and stuff.

I cannot do animation, so I'm hopeing that a little advert when I have something on the next project to present, draws somebody to my aid. The same with an mmu breathable area. There's nothing worse than wearing an eva suit in a nice habitat. That's also why there's no sunbathers N_Molson. I so wanted Sam Carter to parade in practically nothing. But what you gunna do ay.!

Any more ideas, suggestions and tips... please keep them coming.
Thanx for the positives and as soon as I get halfway with my next one, I'll advertise for help. :)

That being said, I would be very curious to see how a large quantity of water behaves under lunar gravity. That would probably be fascinating.

I guess you would float the same way than on Earth, there should be little differences when swimming, except splashes all around !

then blow them up with nuclear weapons? I think I've seen that idea before.....

I do like the idea of making a generic version of this dome as a protection of apollo sites and things like that. I think that's got potential......

I've wondered about protecting the Apollo sites from reckless tourists for a long time (with... chain link fences on the Moon :shifty:), but a micrometeorite protection shield... now that would be interesting to see.

That would indeed be fascinating. I suspect you might float a bit higher in the water, and, now that I think of that, I think it would feel pretty weird.:)

Tedson.... gimmie, gimmie, gimmie.

Your file and work makeing the habitat breathable will be apprieciated and added to the zip, which I can update.
I suppose it's just a drag and drop file, other wise you'll have to guide me.

Like I said, I can be stupid sometimes Tedson. :/
I'm impressed and cannot wait to recieve the file. I'll check my mail after work and get the dome updated asap tonight.

In reference to your transparent dome. I could produce on with less framework, basically remove the top skin from the one released and release it as a generic for those who suggested one for the Appollo sites, in the Appollo style. Grey frame, gold pegs and light black windows. But give me more feed back on your requirement please.

Again, sorry for my confusion...

You could probably kick hard enough to basically stand knee-deep in an 8-foot deep pool. Hell, you might even be able to do dolphin-style jumps out of the water.

Man, now I really want to swim in a lunar pool...

Unbelievable

What is with me... Did I assinate a pope or something in my last life because it always goes wrong. Here's the thing...

After my last update of the Relaxation Dome. I considered the addon complete.
So, being Mr Clean'nTidy, I purged my wings3d dir of all none essencial files. I also deleted my basic orbiter install containing all the rubbish from my test meshes, configs and texs ect.
I do this because I started another project and haveing a basic install allows me to execute and close Orbiter more quickly. Addons can really slow this process down and I enjoy speed in application when testing my meshes and tex's. Anyway, I do this and then I get a message.

"Where's the glass.?" it said.

I scratched my head thinking, it's transparent (I'm not falling for that twice thankyou) and as it bugged me I checked the the zip file that I uploaded and low and behold, the glass dds file was absent. I'd already gotten rid of the other files that could have corrected the problem, oweing to many complexes, so re-installed it to see what everyone else was viewing. Solid glass and I had to zoom in to see the habitat features.

This addon hasn't windows.

Please forgive this stupidity and false advertiseing in the illistration. It doesn't do what's written on the tin.

On the bright side, I've learn't how to do a hexaganel goemetric dome, like the one in the ValleyForge addon. It's way better than my other this dome and will also include simi-transparent glass, which I garentee now this little fiasco is in the light.

It'll be in my surface base which I've started.

---------- Post added at 00:19 ---------- Previous post was at 00:05 ----------

Now I understand why posters where going on about micro-meteor shields and protection domes...

---------- Post added at 01:01 ---------- Previous post was at 00:19 ----------

OK... I loaded the original mesh file from the zip and redone the dds file. The dome now has transparent windows, should you choose to download it.

I'm very sorry for this. Time for Vodka.
