I prefer winged launches; something like the Orion or Titov launchers from World of 2001 would be pretty cool. The launch vehicle would have rocket boosters, and can put itself into sub-orbit (but very close to full orbit), and then Cygnus could detach and do the rest. The other vehicle re-enters the atmosphere and bingo. Reusable all the way! I suppose you could do this with the TX, but a custom booster seems much more interesting (and would take some work to model and configure and the rest...).

Hi! The project is still active, I'm just taking a break today! :thumbup:
But tomorrow will be a hard day, I'm having some poblems to update the wings and "join" it with the Heat shield. I'm having problems to create square windows on the smooth model of the Flight Deck.
But I'm working very fast! Thanks guys! :cheers:

Several news!
First: The launch vehicle will be a winged carrier based on the Shuttle SRB's, it's hard to understand, but tomorrow I'll show a model! :thumbup:

And finally, a question: What you think about the windows be created only in the textures? This can make everything works!

I was just applying some textures to the model and here is a picture of the first texutrized model.

In the Cygnus you can see two Brazilian flags, it's because I'm brazilian, but the winged launcher will feature a flag of the United States.
It's an international project!

Just a late note-the windows are going to be a very hard feat unless you remake the nose, which is anyway a pretty tough thing to do. When I model aircraft and spacecraft that have "hole" windows, I like to keep the nose for the last, and also get myself some decent quality pictures (or scans).

Thanks! I have a lot of free time, I wanna a perfect spacecraft, so the windows will be created just in the textures... And the Cygnus will be big. Not too big like a XR5, but is bigger than the STS.

Hi! I removed the skins of the windows, I'll create a model of the window and the VC soon. And I created the APAS, so the model is almost complete, maybe one day or two to the end of the modeling phase!!! :jiggy:

Hello! Another update! Now I created the handrails in the payload bay and corrected the symmetry of the wings. Here is a picture of the payload bay with the APAS docking system and with the handrails:

And what about control surfaces? I don't see any. Have you thought about their animation?
(And also landing gear?)

About the control surfaces, yes... You can see in the previous posts, but the landing gear isn't ready yet, but I already thought about these animations, of sure! I wanna a perfect spacecraft, like I said before, so I'm thinking about a Mid deck in the VC...

One thing that would be nice is if you could show some weathering on the tiles, like burn marks, streaks, make it look slightly used. Like the below picture.

It's hard to create, maybe later. Now the focus is finish the basic model, and apply the details. And this is a beatiful detail...

The Bay looks to be the same dimension from the scale of the APAS when compared to the Space Shuttle, What are the final dimension supposed to be?

Orbiter = 15'w x 15'h x 60'l
Cygnus = w x h x l???

Hey, I understand your point of view, but I'm terrible with sizes... But I'll make some updates to the APAS and to the airlock, so the Cygnus isn't going to be a different shuttle. I'll create the updates right now and give the scales to you.

I'm sorry, but the scale of the 3ds max isn't the same of the Orbiter, so I can't say exactly the size... But it's very big, maybe two times the size of the shuttle now...
