My countryman has produced this F-16 simpit: http://www.flickr.com/photos/43702478@N02/8378667330/in/set-72157632512270187/

The interesting part is that he implented side cockpit panels using touch screens, instead of useful approach of switches and plywood.

So, I decided to post it here to see if you guys think this is a good way of doing things.

From the technical point of view, I believe that cockpit panels in Orbiter could be exported over VNC, in pretty much the same fason VNCMFD exports MFD screens. So, ignoring performance issues for the moment :) this should be doable. What do you think about the idea from the cost / realism perspective?

For reference, the guy wants to sell his simpit for about 3k EUR, which should give us the idea of the cost of hardware he used.

It will probably be the way of future cockpits anyway (no switches).

If you ignore performance, rotation, aspect ratio and scaling issues, :) probably not terribly realistic but pretty flexible. That's one problem with physical flight decks for Orbiter is the wide range of craft and panel layouts available to us - and where dynamic panels would really shine.

Some commercial flight training centers use this type of 'all glass' cockpit to do low-fidelity training on many aircraft types at reduced cost.

Nice work! :)
But I prefer switches and I plan to build similar cockpit for orbiter but enclosed not opened like that and with curved surface in front of projector..I have built this http://www.orbiter-forum.com/showthread.php?t=28461
as a test and I plan to do something like that but with more of switches for full cockpit..
I planed to use some extra monitors for MFD but I wanted them to be on touch..so when I saw your post on MFD on android tablets I was very happy..but I cant make it work :/

So far I've used NETMFD and VNCMFD successfully with a MIMO screen (1of the 2 I plan to use in my SIMPIT) although androids would be cheaper I decided to keep with the same OS on both client and server.

Currently trying to pretty up the displays :)
