Whatever happens, if it wasn't for Ver, Ham would have been champion again quite a few races ago. Both are in a league of their own. Now we have a very special race coming up. Enjoy the weekend!

21 races into a 22 race season, full of incident, accident, runaway victories for both drivers, controversy over penalties, over car legality, even a disqualification, and here we are at the final round with both protagonists level on points. You honestly could not script this better than reality.

This final has generated interest on a broadcast forum I frequent. Not usual for sports posts to be generated, thought this was interesting.

Query - Hamilton and Verstappen are level on points in the last race of the season. If neither driver finishes Verstappen will win the championship due to having more wins. So my query is what if Verstappen deliberately collides with Hamilton and both don't finish? Will he still win? What are the chances of that happening?

The big precedence here is 1994 and 1997. In 1994 Michael Schumacher took Damon Hill out of the final Grand Prix in Adelaide protecting his slender lead and he claimed the 1994 World Championship. In 1997 at the final race in Jerez he tried to do it again to Jacques Villenuve, this time he took himself out but Villenuve was able to continue and finish 3rd in the race to claim the championship outright. Schumacher was investigated for the incident and was stripped of all points he scored in 1997 (although all wins, poles etc still counted for statistical purposes).
Ever since then it's established that winning the championship through unsportsmanship can and will be overturned."

The "Free" broadcast reference is to the fact UK national broadcaster Channel Four is transmitting this GP live and free to air. Normally it would be pay/subscription through SKY TV.

I couldn't watch without taking breaks. HAM having the better launch, pure on reaction time while being on a harder compound, having competitors on softs not only in front but also at the back. Yestersday's effort of VER to be on pole evaporated within less than a second. The attempt of VER to recover then was was, arguably, nullified by the decision of the stewards to not have HAM give back the position.

Then what we saw was Mercedes clearly having better package. HAM was able to extend the lead rather effortlessly, increasing the gap lap after lap and going into tire save modus towards the end. Everyone kind of knew he was going to win the race in a way he has done so many times before.

I was sitting, kind of depressed, behind my gaming console when I heard about the, non-virtual, safety car. With just four laps to go, I felt there wouldn't be enough time to captitualze on it.

But then the Red Bull team made the right, championship winning decision to put VER on softs.

I know there are two compaints of Mercedes, but it is not going to reverse today's outcome.

VER is the first Dutch F1race winner. And now he is a world champion. Well deversed and we are very proud.
