Are you ready Texas?

Ike seems to be a bit SW of Houston, however some 5 day cones are putting right on top of the bay. How nice....

Once again, get out the old dusty Hurricane kit, and see what beans and franks looks like after 3 years in the cellar.

Yeah, Ike looks nasty... but you have to remember, I bugged out for Gustav, I'll be gone within the week. Good thing I have a ranch up in San Marcos to go to!

This thing could still swing north and hit NOLA. Granted I'm in Atlanta and have a more objective view on this, but I'm not calling it till it clears Cuba on the NW side of castroland.

We're watching it closely, so far most of the tracks show it going into South Texas, but we're likely to get some weather out of it at the very least. It's very concerning indeed.

ha, they're not dusty after this season. We've had some track this way and already had to pull it out and refresh some supplies.

In the past 48 hours or so, I've seen current estimates of Ike's impact swing from Florida to Brownsville and then back to Corpus. The boffins have no clue this time, apparently, unlike with Gustav. So I figure based on the speed of approach, the impact area pendulum will have swung back to Lousy Anna by "Der Tag"....

But it's somebody else's turn

Yeah -- the models this morning have more spread than I've seen in a while. We're going into hurricane mode at work shortly, and telling our people to be ready to rock and roll on short notice.

Wow. Even though we have mandatory evacuation at noon, our school district's administrators are so (insert long string of profanity here) that we are having a full school day today. (school ends at 2:45PM)
Looks like we'll need to be leaving soon. :p Winds are to be 100-120mph on Saturday, which I'm not too worried about, but storm surge is supposed to be 8-10ft here and we're only 9ft above sea level. Also, we'll definitely be out of power for some time and have no where to get anything if all the store owners evacuate. (or at least close down)

As someone who's been through a few of these, let me offer a little trick I learned. Fill every container you can get your hands on with drinkable water RIGHT NOW and put them in your freezer. When the power goes out, take a few of them out at a time and put them in your refrigerator. It'll prolong the time your refrigerator will keep things cool AND provide you with a source of drinking water when they thaw.

They JUST changed it now so that school gets out at noon, AT the time of evacuation. :p It's probaby really up to the students if they want to go to school or not. Since both of my parents are still having to work today, I might as well go. ;)

Looks like I'll be offline, we're boarding up the windows and evacuating. We're in League City/Kemah 11 feet above sea level so we're gonna have to leave. Hope I have a house left after this one folks. See you all later.

Good luck! Luckily we only get the residuals of your hurricanes here in Europe.

Take care and stay safe! That's the most important thing right now! It's a biggie and the latest track has it going due west of Houston by 7 am Saturday.

I have attached a screenshot from GoogleEarth of Ike and the predicted track as of the 11 am EDT update from the NHC.

Good that you're prepared guys. I remember the storm "Kyrill" that was here January 2007 and I only knew that it was coming after my school was closed earlier (all the other were in panic and I did not know why ).
