I visited Klaipeda, Lithuania many (many) years ago in 1993 aboard the USS Doyle for an annual exercise (BaltOps), testing littoral ASW tactics and strategies. I remember it being a very welcoming city. There were still signs in two languages (one of course being Russian) and what I most remember were all the friendly people, particularly children, who would gather around all the French, German, Italian, British and American sailors.
Lithuania also had two Grisha class ships in our little "battle group", and by all accounts were some of the most professional sailors I'd ever encountered.
