USSF-44

Here's a little patch.zip with launch scenario for the USSF-44 mission 01 Nov, scenarios starts 13:30 UTC.
Also a .cfg for a 10,000kg dummy payload satellite, and two textures for the upper stage (with grey insulation).

WARNING! Will overwrite your "f9_stg2.dds" and "f9_stg2_adaptor.dds" (but I have included backups of the originals as .bak).

I figure about 10K is the upper limit for full geosync. orbit, with nothing much left for deorbiting the upper stage.

Cheers,
Brian

Doh!
It should be the "expendable core" variant for USSF-44.
Change the FalconHeavy scenario entry to:
Code:
FalconHeavy:FalconHeavy\f9h_expendable_core
or install the new patch attached to this post.
Sorry about that! 🤦‍♂️

Hello :welcome:
some code to change the falcon heavy rocket, from the slc-40 to lc-39a and change the texture of the first stages from new to reused
There are a couple of test scenarios with FalconHeavy at LC-39A in the "FalconHeavy for Orbiter2016/ISS 350km Orbit" folder.
You can edit the scenario to change date, payload, etc. as required.

You can set the "used" texture of any booster stage from the FalconHeavy .cfg file by adding the lines:
CntrUsed = 1
PortUsed = 1
StbdUsed = 1

See "Doc/FalconHeavy for Orbiter2016" folder for more details.
Cheers,
BrianJ

I didn't read very far, but couldn't see anything about 3-piece fairing - if I'm missing it, please post link or quote!
It was almost certainly me imagining stuff... :)
Haha Velcro rockets has a 3 piece fairing option, maybe that's where I got that thought from

Yes, stretching meshes can sometimes produce unintended results, but I think just moving the conical section up might be OK, with a bit of retexturing.
It's the texturing part I was specifically referring to, so that sounds good.

The long fairing option was required by the US Space Force for their large spysats that were once originally flew on top of Delta IV-Heavy (like the KH-11, etc), and also to complement Vulcan Centaur if it is unavailable

OK, well I think I'll just keep the logo "generic" and tweak it a little, maybe take the red Falcon head off.
Leave it to folks to make their own mission specific logo and just swap out the .dds file, as and when required.

I might also take out the old fairing-with-parafoil option and recovery vessel, since it seems redundant.
(think I'll keep it for the Falcon9 though, because I kind of like it).

Back soon(ish) with test package.
Cheers,

I'd keep it, if a payload could fly with the small fairing it likely would.
Just to clarify - the default fairing will be the "standard" 14m, with a .cfg file option to switch to the new big 22m.
It's just the fairing-with-parafoil and recovery vessel-with-net that I think can be dropped.
I thought SpaceX had pretty much abandoned that idea (catching the fairings in a net on a ship) ??

Aww, but it's fun. :confused:
OK, I don't need much persuading to keep it :)
But the default fairing will be without parafoil - so you'll need to specify the "recoverable fairing" option in the .cfg
(that just makes more sense to me). And only the standard 14m fairings will be recoverable.
Cheers,
BrianJ

Hi,
here's a patch which includes the new 22m fairing.
You need FalconHeavy installed first. Unzip patch into Orbiter root folder as usual and let it overwrite FalconHeavy files.

Two new scenarios in the FalconHeavy for Orbiter2016 folder - "Large Fairing" and "Fairing Recovery"

For the 22m fairing, include this line in your FalconHeavy .cfg
LargeFairing = 1
For fairings with parafoils, include this
RecoverableFairing = 1

The old line "NoFairRecovery = 1" is redundant

I haven't tested this patch, so I hope it works.
@gattispilot - give it a try and let me know if its OK. Large fairing should look like this:
