Saturn V MK II 2009-12-12

Rocket_Exhibition.jpg

Saturn V MK II is my version of modern Saturn V rocket envisioned as an alternative to Ares V built by employing better engines and some advances in materials science allowing for lighter stages and higher performance than original Saturn V. The basic version with 32 m LOX/kerosene fueled first stage and 28 m LOX/LH2 fueled second stage is capable of putting 220 ton payload into LEO. It should be capable of launching a rather large space station or Orion crew capsule, Altair Moon lander and Earth departure stage in single launch. First stage is powered by 5 highly efficient RD 171 engines currently used on Zenit rocket, second stage by 7 J2X engines which is in development. Diameter of both first and second stage is 12,8 meters.

I have also included various upgrades with stretched stages, liquid rocket boosters and oversized fairings covering the possible payloads with mass range from 200 to 900 tons and payload size with max diameter of 20 m and length of 65 m.

Scenarios under Payloads section require some additional addons to be installed. Look at the description of each scenario to find out what addon is needed.

You must install Velcro Rockets for this addon to work
