Try for a very soft atmospheric re-entry, without any plasma nor fire and maybe very low hotting, in the idea of "air fliying" at Mach 30, and 70 km alt.
Maybe this sort of different way of re-entring, could have . . . saved Columbia s'crew in 2003 ?

Exemple de rentrée atmosphérique très douce, avec "presque pas" d'échauffement, et sans plasma, à la façon d'un "vol plané à Mach 30, à 70 km d'altitude" ! en freinant m.sec après m.sec, sur 13 "carreaux" du MFD Map à partir du Déorbit Burn ou autrement dit (1 + 1/6e) rotation terrestre.
Une telle manoeuvre aurait-elle pu ...sauver l'équipage de Columbia en Janvier 2003 ?
