ORBITER-FORUM will be temporarily closed at 2026-07-23 18:00 UTC while we complete some OF maintenance tasks. The amount of downtime is expected to take up to one hour, but probably less.
The next one I'm making will be an American base. It will have some similarities with Sword Edge (sharing of technologies and all that). I have no idea what to name it, though. Nor where it will be located. But, I do have a layout for it!
I will keep the Chinese base idea in mind though. A...
Moscoviense is a Russian lunar outpost located on the far side of the Moon in the Mare Moscoviense, its namesake.
IMPORTANT: The flattening of the base is handled by the D3D9's flat (.flt) system. If it does not work for you, ensure you have the most recent version of the client, and check in...
LordCroussette submitted a new addon:
Sword Edge - European outpost on the Moon - Fictional (obviously) manned outpost on the Moon.

Sword Edge is a small lunar outpost located next to Rupes Recta. In French, is it also known as "L'épée dans la Lune", or "The Sword in the Moon".
The outpost of Sword Edge was first founded by French colonists as the temporary outpost called "Le bord de l'épée". It served as a pitstop between...
I thought this base would take me a few days to make. A few hours later, and I'm pretty much done.
It can be downloaded here now: https://orbiter-forum.com/resources/sword-edge-european-outpost-on-the-moon.5588/
Yes, unfortunately. They're a fucking pain to do. They aren't really worth the effort unless your goal is to go maximum details. I don't know how it works in say Blender, but I use 3DS Max and its a royal pain.☹️
Holy moly! You're a life saviour!
As far as I know, no, there isn't a runway texture with numbers ready to put on. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure you need to use a custom mesh if you want numbers on your runway. Either a transparent mesh with the number as texture placed over a regular runway, or a full custom runway mesh...
I personally learned how to make tiles from @jacquesmomo on DanSteph's forum (here: http://orbiter.dansteph.com/forum/index.php?topic=14669.0). Unfortunately, the tutorial is in French, so you will need to translate the pages. And, due to the nature of translations, it might come out more...
That's normal too. By default, Orbiter only come with the Archive folder, which has all the textures in .tree files.
But, you can easily get access to .dds surface tiles and .elv elevation tiles from this website: https://mirror.orbiter-radio.uk/orbiter/assets/earth.html
There is a map at the...
Someone once asked me that question in private messages. So I'll just copy the little guide I wrote for that person here. Disclaimer: The question was about a moon base, so this guide use the moon. But it works the exact same way for the Earth. Just put the .flt file in the Earth textures folder...
That's strange. Those are Orbiter 2010 textures. 2016 use a completely different system for tiles. Are you really running 2016, or did you mistake it for 2010?
If it is indeed 2016, then did you modify Earth.cfg in the Config folder? One line in the file allow the user to change between the new...
Hullo and welcome! I also tend to play games and sims in "phases", where I play a shit-ton of a single game for a few weeks, then have zero interest playing it again for the next few months. And, you are right. It can be annoying to get re-familiarized with everything after a long period of...
