A sad day. Clouds cover the sky here tonight, can't see the first quarter moon. Almost the same lunar phase as you took your first steps on our celestial neighbours surface. Thank you Neil for all the inspiration. You changed my life.

On a sidenote: Has anyone seen this cool web applet? Just ignore the pumpkin and those birds... drive Curiosity around Gale crater, near its landing site! With full six wheel suspension, low martian gravity and real NASA/JPL albedo and elevation data. Be careful, you can't climb the too steep...

Being the age of 1 year at the time of the Apollo 17 landing and obviously not remembering it, I can safely say that I have never been more excited about a landing on another planet than this. Great coverage of the event, thanks to the live stream and EYES. Looking at the first hazcam images...

That's strange. In the past, it always worked when I installed the new clients over my existing installation, but the last few releases don't seem to have a change. RC44 should be installed properly, but the Orbiter_ng splashscreen shows D3D9Client RC40 Build [Feb 27 2012] Any ideas? :embarrassed:

Good observation Jarmonik! Eric Bruneton's atmospheric rendering code is brilliant due to his scientific research and approach, though I was thinking the exact same thing. You can "test" the dawn and dusk effects in SpaceEngine (as it uses E.B.'s code), and to me the sky is getting too dark too...

Finally I've take some photos of the event. I believe Venus and Jupiter are near closest distance these days, err nights. Taken this evening from my hometown Karlsruhe at dusk, snapped away as I was cycling through downtown. Leaning the camera against a street lamp pole helped a lot.
