I have to dispute this. There is a fire axe that is kept on the flight deck. I doubt that there is an axe in the cabin!

and this is a problem, often flight attendants don't go through the same level of screening process as a pilot. So, if you want to take over a plane you can start work as an FA. It hasn't happened yet but it might and this is the problem, for every solution there are several issues that come up.

Possibly even personal effects of the passengers, wallets, etc. Even a single wallet or purse with ID would provide some sort of closure.

No, it won't be. It'll trip out the computers and even then the plane should go to direct law. The airbus flight deck has a guarded switch that when pushed will terminate FBW totally and once pushed this cannot be reset except when back on the ground.

That's a bit worrying! Did they just shut down a computer or switch the plane to direct law? I'd be interested to read the full incident report on this one.

You already have it all. ISA does SAR missions and test runs before many launches and always has a ship 150 miles off the coast in case of an abort.
