    Trying to "create" an equation

Well, since we are in a Space forum, wouldn't it be safe to assume the said targeting would be done in orbit and outside of a gravitational field? In which case radial targeting would become irrelevant and the distribution would fall back to 1/r^2 ?

Total radiation flux from a star

Hi! Of course, I've been reading all those articles 100's of times and while they do provide a general background on how to compute the radiation, the information there is nowhere near accurate or analytical enough to generate a mathematical model. For instance, this is all the info I could...

simple geometry problem with lines and squares

Well, if I understood your quad-tree system, the point is that you will ALWAYS have a mathematical intersection unless the two surfaces are parallel or identical. So the point is more of a "how far away from the center is the intersection point?" is it inside the square or not? You can...

Is a suited astronaut on EVA a spacecraft?

It gets easier than that: Spacecraft : A spacecraft or spaceship is a craft or machine designed for spaceflight. Does it fly in space? (check) Also, the oapiIsVessel(EVA) seems to agree. And you shouldn't ever argue with the Orbiter API. I guess, technically, the name Spacecraft/Spaceship...

Total radiation flux from a star

Thanks!:P Oh, I've been back for a while, just lurking mostly. Well, inverse square law is probably a good bet on distance attenuation. But I would think the total flux would depend on things like stellar composition, and what nuclear reaction occurs inside the star (ie. where the star lies...

    DIY Appendectomy!

Well, I imagine you cannot setup an IV drip, and all the blood & fluids floating arround might need some different operating tehniques to be learned but I can't think of any definite reason why a patient would not recover from an operation. I think somebody on the ISS needs to volunteer to...

Total radiation flux from a star

Hi all ! I'm looking around the net to find good resources on how to compute total radiation flux from a given star at a given orbiting distance. Ideally I'd like to get not just the W/m2 of the star, but also the expected high-energy radiation, thermal, solar wind pressure.. well, the works...

    Advanced Question Dragonfly probs

Checking from the code: DC V - either DC1 or DC2 voltage is outside (27,30) volts range AC V - AC1 voltage is outsite of (35,38) volts FC LD - FC1 load is outside of (20,200) amps (which could happen if you do not use FC1) Use the gauges on the right panel to see what parameters are out of...

Poll The worst goofs one can make in space and still stay alive

Well it's "technically" survivable, but for me the funniest line in the whole Apollo program has to be Dave Scott's. You see, they had some trouble separating the LM from the CSM on Apollo 15 so Al (CMP) went down into the tunnel to check if the umbilical cord was plugged in. At 100:21 Dave...

News 80 years of "The Adventures of Tintin"

Bless you for reminding me about this lost book. I think Destination Moon was the first comic book I ever had. I ended up having about a dozen or so of Tintin comics, all in french language (jokes are a bit sharper I guess). Seeing that cover picture on wikipedia brought back tons of...

    Meshing Question mesh not smooth

This could be a late reply, but MshMaker should come with some sort of documentation included: You can tweak something called MAT_TENSION to define an angle threshold where you want smooth or sharpened normals. Default settings (1.0 rad) should be good enough for a simple cylinder to appear...

    McCain or Obama?

I misvoted!!! In a strange dislexix move, I clicked on the other candidate and voted! I was 100% sure who I wanted to win, but I still voted for the other guy. And now the poll is tied at 14 - 14. Oau...

    So what is new?

Oau, OK ! So nice to see most of the Orbiter community is still arround here. I have to say I was afraid a lot of you might be missing. Good to hear about the upcomming release on Tuesday! Is this the release that includes multiplayer? Any screenshots available? Sorry to hear about LazyD ...

    So what is new?

Hi ! 'been a long time but I finally managed to crawl my user onto this forum. Anyone from the old-time Orbiteers (like people who actually remember me) arround here? Feels like I was out of the loop for a long time, so uhm... what is new?

    MeshMaker 2.1 2004-08-24

Latest version of my mesh converter. Will convert .3ds format into Orbiter native .msh format. All material properties are properly imported. Vertices normals are 'inteligently' computed for both smooth&sharp edges. Vertices are smoothed or rearanged whenever the mesh is not...
