    OHM Galileo atmosphere probe

Have added the source code now! Hope it is of some use. Big thanks to Artlav for his Spacecraft3 to DLL converter which I used to first convert my old (rather bad) version of the Galileo probe into a preliminary version of the new add-on code which I could then improve and add extra features. It...

    Galileo atmosphere probe 2014-03-13

Updated version of my old Galileo atmosphere probe. The Galileo probe was sent by NASA to investigate the atmosphere of Jupiter. The probe was carried to Jupiter by the Galileo spacecraft (which isn't modelled here) and entered the atmosphere of Jupiter in 1995 returning measurements during its...

Project Mars Design Reference Mission 1

Hi, Just to let you know I have picked up the project after a little pause due to updating my Galileo atmospheric probe add-on and being distracted by other things. Testing a stack here in the vicinity of Vesta using the Artemis node add-on to dock them all together.

    Orbiter Video Thread

Have been playing around with re-entry (i.e. entry into the atmosphere...) effects

Project Mars Design Reference Mission 1

Couple of things: Have added UMMU code to the capsule. Also some DRM global variables changed to class variables to stop vessels using tne same dll overwriting each other when loaded via a scenario file.

Project Mars Design Reference Mission 1

A couple of small updates: 1. Updating the docking ports so the landers can dock to other spacecraft or themselves as shown in the image. 2. Have updated the UMMU capability so they can enter and exit the launcher. The image shows a UMMU leaving the hab after a test launch.

Here's an updated version of the capsule with everything included this time hopefully.

Project Mars Design Reference Mission 1

Some progress: 1. Added RCS based autopilots (switches 2 & 5) for controlling heading and entry velocity for use before entering the atmosphere 2. Fixed a small bug that was preventing commands from the guidance routine, to fly negative lift trajectories, getting to the control routine. 3...

Project Mars Design Reference Mission 1

Here is a test version of the capsule. It's by no means finished but the atmospheric entry and landing autopilots are working. Included two scenarios. One starts with the capsule approaching Cape Canaveral beginning at an altitude at around 100 km. I have included instructions in the...

Project Mars Design Reference Mission 1

So a bit more progress. 1. Can now deliver the lander plus its NTR stage into orbit with the appropriate bits and bobs of the launcher dropping off as it ascends. 2. Preparing the capsule for anyone who wants to play around with it. Will release it on this thread sometime quite soon (end of...

Thanks! They look really good. No problem. I think I'm getting the hang of flying it :)

Project Mars Design Reference Mission 1

Progress update: Have figured a simple way to preserve the DRM1 v1.4 vessels when installing DRM1 v1.5. I've just renamed the mesh folder and added a "_1-5" onto the end of the dlls and config files. The new capsule is starting to feel like it's close to being finished. I will release a test...

Project Mars Design Reference Mission 1

Ah ok thanks! I think I got my units mixed up as well. However updated the numbers and now have a more sensible ascent profile.

Project Mars Design Reference Mission 1

Well I'm getting some of the specs from the DRM1 document. The rest is guesswork. Quoting the DRM1 document: And this is figure 3-16: I am then using wikipedia to find the thrust of a F1A : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rocketdyne_F-1 Then I am working backwards to find the mass of the...

Project Mars Design Reference Mission 1

The first stage core is almost identical to the Saturn V first stage (I've realised I've only put four engines there, it should be five). So its using F1A engines burning kerosene and liquid oxygen. The four boosters use the same engines also burning kerosene and liquid oxygen. The second...

Project Mars Design Reference Mission 1

Thanks that would be great! The Orbiter default flames don't look quite right. And I don't know how to make other ones. Ah ok thanks for letting me know! It maybe due to my sloppy C++ code or some workaround I have included to accommodate UCGO or something related to initialising the vessel. I...

Project Mars Design Reference Mission 1

Some small updates 1. I think I have a final version of the hab's new look (I'm not entirely happy with it but it's good enough for now). I will keep the option open for using the old mesh that is based on the visuals in the DRM1 document) 2. I have added a platform to the cargo lander and...

oh well I can leave the old wheels on, I still have them :)

Project Mars Design Reference Mission 1

Slowly getting there, some more updates. 1. Coded the engines for the first and second stage and textured the lower part of the rocket. Can now launch the rocket. 2. Redone the wheels for the rover and the habitat.

Project Mars Design Reference Mission 1

A bit more progress: 1. Very nearly got the landing autopilot working for the Moon reliably. Made some quite precise landings however there's still some small issues that need tidying up. Pictures show the lander with the descent stage attached. 2. Figured out how to make RCS thruster holes...
