Science & Sci-Fi in Second Life!

Oh, people are figuring out all manner of nifty things to do! (You guys did read past the first couple sentences of my OP, right?) You can build a car and race it on a track, for one thing. They even have their own version of NASCAR... SLASCAR! Check out that Int'l Spaceflight Museum I told...

Actually, there's a great deal of RPG going on, and various combat systems that allow you to give and take damage.

Science & Sci-Fi in Second Life!

Downloaded Second Life about a month ago, and I'm having a total blast! I'd been hearing about it for years, but always thought it'd probably be something lame — not worth the HD space. Well, the first thing I did in-world was visit the International Spaceflight Museum... Then I started...

    Moving from 39B to 39A

Hmmmm, okay, thanks Dave! I wasn't sure how to go about researching that. EDIT: @woo482: I believe the PCR is the Payload Change-out Room.

    Moving from 39B to 39A

So, after Atlantis returns from STS-125, Endeavour is going to be moved from its "Launch On Need" position at Pad 39B to Pad 39A for the STS-126 launch. Will this be the first time a Shuttle stack has ever been moved from one pad to the other? I don't recall that ever happening before.

Venus Rises - Cool New Web Series!

I first heard about it back in February, when io9 ran this post... Venus Rises: First Clip Of Firefly-Influenced Space Drama Venus Rises Well, it premiered this last week (but everybody was busy talking about the NBC webseries Gemini Division). For a "garage production", it's got some slick...

    Mitchell-Hyundine SA-23 Aurora class 'StarFury'

This is the add-on I've been dreaming of since I first found Orbiter (in 2001)! Too bad I don't have a PC anymore! The thruster placement is gonna be tricky, but here's a cool clip from the episode "All Alone in the Night" that shows off ALL the Starfury's thrusters at once! My favorite...

DNA of Flight: According to Virgin Galactic

Looking at the Virgin Galactic press images, I notice the silhouettes of famous aircraft plastered everywhere, showing the "DNA of Flight"... Apparently, technology went straight from the Lunar Module to SpaceShipOne! Kind of a slap in the face to all those who worked on the Shuttle program...

Mon 9EDT In the Shadow of the Moon

I just found it in the "As Is" bin at Amoeba for $9.99 (it's got a few scratches). Make sure you watch the Bonus Interviews & Stories, 'cause there's a whole lot more of that never-before-seen footage, especially from Gemini! You also see gun-camera footage of Buzz shooting down a MiG. Gives new...

concept ships: Great New Blog I just Found!

Whatever. I'm sure that if somebody wanted to make a nice mesh from these, once they place the engines & thrusters and get the mass and all that other good stuff worked out, then load it into Orbiter, the thing'll sit quite comfortably in that happy realm of real physics. EDIT: Well, okay...
