I'm doing an AMA in a couple of days!

Well an AMA is a public interview of anyone, not just game developers. If you plan to participate in one, or even just read the results of one, it's probably worth it to look at a few to get an idea of the format. There are two main subreddits dedicated to AMAs: r/AMA and r/IAmA. There's no...

Do we see into the future in ORBITER?

On the contrary, we have a great deal of understanding of how gravity works. Certainly there are still open questions, but gravity is very well defined, its mechanisms are largely explained, and its phenomena can be predicted with a high degree of accuracy in almost every situation.

    Search Hey All..need a refresher

The english version of the manual is here: http://www.acsoft.ch/AMSO/AMSO-User-manual.doc I put together a kind of step-by-step guide a few years ago that explains how to run through Apollo 11. You may find it helpful: https://www.orbiter-forum.com/showthread.php?t=34350

News Moon to get 4G mobile network

Curious what they mean by 4G? LTE is designed specifically for a radio environment where you have many users simultaneously accessing the network and the radio channels are subject to tons of interference and meteorological distortion. That situation doesn't apply to the moon. LTE is also...

Launch News SpaceX Falcon Heavy Demo Mission (1330-1630 EST 6th Feb. 2018)

HORIZONS latest ephemeris (the Tesla is target body -143205, negative sign required there) shows the Tesla's aphelion at about 1.66AU, so somewhat short of the asteroid belt and not actually that much beyond mars (1.524 AU). It was probably only a couple hundred extra m/s of delta-V.

Launch News SpaceX Falcon Heavy Demo Mission (1330-1630 EST 6th Feb. 2018)

They never planned a Martian fly-by. (The next Martian launch window isn't until April.) The car will likely just orbit the sun for the next billion or so years.

Launch News SpaceX Falcon Heavy Demo Mission (1330-1630 EST 6th Feb. 2018)

I noticed on the official feed that the announcers were stressing that the two camera views looked identical but were from the two different boosters, which I don't think was right. You could see the re-entry and landing burns of the lower booster in both cameras. Video link...

General Question How is Kerbal more famous than Orbiter.

Not sure why the defensiveness. It is possible to like and enjoy more than one similar thing. In fact, if I like a thing, I usually also like other similar things. I've said repeatedly that Orbiter has a better flight and instrumentation model. That is and always will be true. I love flying the...

General Question How is Kerbal more famous than Orbiter.

What comparison would you prefer? Atlantis? I mean it and the ISS are the only realistic vessels that aren't addons. Even with more realistic spacecraft addons like ASMO or Shuttle Fleet or SSU or any of the rocket addons, the focus is more on a realistic flight and instrumentation model than on...

General Question How is Kerbal more famous than Orbiter.

There are ways that KSP's spaceships are more realistic than most of the ones in Orbiter, particularly if you play with some of the realism add-ons. Any of the DG-based ships in Orbiter are purely fictional, as are capital ships like the Arrow and the rotating lunar station. "Silly" and...

General Question How is Kerbal more famous than Orbiter.

KSP started as a sandbox and got popular that way. I still prefer sandbox play to the career mode. I think a large part of KSP's success is the other issue that's been touched on in this thread: all add-ons for KSP are required by the KSP license to publish full source code, the add-on community...

Star Wars: The Last Jedi (SPOILERS)

He was clearly there to tie into Guardians of the Galaxy: a mini origin story for The Collector. I find it curious that the First Order would have their Dreadnoughts project an external gravity field such that projectiles like--just for instance--bombs would be attracted to them. Even curiouser...

    Why gravity?

Evolution requires population genetics to have any rigor. And population genetics is statistics from top to bottom. It's true that you can explain evolutionary theory (of which natural selection is a part) in simple elegant language, but to be able to make predictions based on it, verify its...

Flight Question What was your Orbiter progression?

    - Fly the Apollo 11 mission with ASMO - Using Atlantis or one of the Shuttle mods, take off from KSC, rendezvous with the ISS, and then deorbit and land at KSC unpowered. - Fly to Mars. Then slingshot there from Venus. Land at Olympus Base. Install a Phobos base and land there. - Try the KSC to...

    Hurricane Harvey

The problem with nuclear facilities is that for months or years after they're shut down they generate enough heat due to the radioactive decay of fission products that they require continuous circulating cooling, or they'll melt down.

Why did you rename them? As far as I can recall, you just copy them over the low-res ones.

Update Updated XR Vessels for Orbiter 2016 Released

Just an FYI, the default Windows file manager apparently can't handle archive files with a root directory called "." (as all of the XR archives are on your website.) I was able to use 7-zip to extract the files, but it might be a problem for other users.
