Launch News SpaceX DM-2 Launch Scheduled for May 27!

I assume it's safer to lose the trunk before deorbit burn in case anything goes wrong with the separation. If there were too be any problems in the separation, I'd rather have the option to return to the ISS and not be committed to a deorbit

Launch News SpaceX DM-2 Launch Scheduled for May 27!

Crew faced the direction of travel at launch, so they were lying on their back when on the pad - same as all previous craft.

They've got an abort lever under the central screen where both can reach it. That's it

"Does anybody know what those white small boxes are that Douglas Hurley got out of his leg-pouch (and puts back after un-fueling)?" They just mentioned it on the live feed. Crew provisions (snacks) and tablets (electronic, not vitamin pills!) that they will take out and use on orbit.

If you open Nasa's main feed and their media feed in separate windows, you get a nice dual-aspect view of the crew!

    Updates ISS UPDATES

The BBC News article said they were 'evacuated'. I assume that means jumping into the Soyuz capsules. Did they actually detach from the ISS?

Launch News Orion EFT-1 Update thread

Are there any images of the capsule after it's been recovered? It'd be interesting to see close-up photos and see how it looks compared with Apollo capsules.

    News Who watched EFT-1?

I had it on in the background for the whole day. And again on the second day when they actually launched it. The video from the UAV when it re-entered was amazing to watch

Launch News Orion EFT-1 Update thread

I'd interpret that as normal procedure. If there is a chance that the rocket will launch then they want the drone inthe air. Even if it's a 1% chance.

Hubble's last photo, what will it be?

IIRC they had to replace a few gyros in the last hubble servicing mission. As these gyros can fail at any time, I expect that at some point in the future, sufficient of them will fail again that NASA can no longer point Hubble in the direction that they want. This will probably happen suddenly...

General Question Why is Luna called "Moon" in-Game?

Oddly, the adjective for Saturn (ie, relating to Saturn) can either be 'Saturnian' (obvious) or 'Cronian' (derived from Cronus - the Greek version of Saturn).

    Update TransX development

From what I can remember, I took a look over the original BTC code before putting this functionality into TransX. In short, the answer is 'neither is exactly correct', but one is more accurate than the other. From what I can remember, TransX is more accurate (otherwise I'd just have copied BTC...

Challenge KSC to Wideawake - "The Classic" Speed Run

Someone's got to beat my time. Come on folks! Oh, and vsfx, the max speed for the 16:35 run was 15km/s (GS I think - you may need to check the playback as I don't have orbiter installed anymore) Edit again: For those interested in the history, here...

News The Challenger: UK BBC 2 Drama-documentary.

It was more of a drama about Feynmann and his involvement in the commission, rather than about the challenger or the commission itself.

OHM HUDDrawer SDK v.0.4 for Orbiter 2016

Enjo - Love it. I remember the genesis of this topic and initial discussions with you and Face about it. Alas, my life moved on and I haven't had any time to develop for orbiter in far far too long (though did manage to load it the other day in an attempt to intercept 2012 DA14 (but failed!!!)...

Problem need help with two virtual cockpits coding

C++ does have a handy workaround for this which guarantees a rigid enum <==> int mapping no matter which compiler has been used: enum myEnum { one = 1, two = 2, three = 3 } It will compile it such that the enum entry 'one' gets given the value 1 etc. Then you can very happily cast...
