    calculating transfer radius over time

    Using the first formula provided by Keithth I seem to have a problem calculating B. using the formula I get the correct values for A and C: A = 1034.66 C = 5.75X10^{-3} for B I get: (r - r_p) / (r_a - r) = (1738100 - 1718100) / (1758100 - 1738100) = 20000/20000 = 1 \sqrt{1} = 1...

    calculating transfer radius over time

Is there anychance you could work through an example from the equation to help me understand it, this is a bit beyond my maths skills (or lack of)!

    calculating transfer radius over time

Thanks, there's a fair bit of reading up for me to do understand that but I'll give it a go!

    calculating transfer radius over time

That's how I was thinking of doing it. From the radius I think I can calculate all other orbital elements that I would want the sim to display.

    calculating transfer radius over time

Hi all. I'm thinking of writing a program to simulate going from lunar orbit to the surface by providing the program with an initial orbital radius (it will then assume a perfect orbit) and looping through the code until the craft hits the surface. The initial set up of the orbit is easy...

Question What's the best tutorial for Earth-Mars transfers ?

Time for shameless plug #2 in 2 days:P I wrote a tutorial for just what your after a few years ago. It uses TransX so if you wanted to do it with IMFD this isn't for you. However, TransX is a more powerful MFD so its good to get the hang of. Dont be put off by the age of the tutorial as its...
