Internet Gravity, space movie directed by Alfonso Cuaron. Trailer up!

Yeah, I was wondering about that. Would it work if the debris was in an elliptical orbit coming down from a higher altitude with a roughly 90 minute orbital period? Very unlikely, but wouldn't that give you an intercept every 90 minutes, assuming a debris cloud a few hundred KM across with the...

Internet Gravity, space movie directed by Alfonso Cuaron. Trailer up!

This is equal to Apollo 13. That is all you need to know. Easily my best movie of 2013, and I don't see anything else coming down the line this year to equal it. Favorite things about this movie: -Loved seeing the Soyuz finally get a real on-screen treatment. -A lot of the action sequences...

    Gaming Any IL-2 Sturmovik fans?

I kind of quit playing, but I cannot wait for Occulus Rift support for IL2. Dogfighting in VR from the cockpit is a gaming dream for me.

    Updates ISS UPDATES

NASA owes so much to Hadfield, he is a social media Jedi and has singlehandedly made space interesting to regular people again, if only temporarily. The one thing NASA seems to be best at is taking something as awesome as spaceflight and making it so mind-numbingly boring, even though it's...

Take on immigration and whatnot - overwhelmed by ghosts of decisions unmakable

Sadly I can't really offer more than my sympathy for how you feel. I sunk about 5 years of my life into my career as an automotive tech. I got an associates degree in the field and worked for several different employers, all of them terrible, until I completely gave up on the field. I'm 24 and...

Gaming The Kerbal Space Program - Version 1.2.x

Eh, it's a sandbox, it doesn't matter what other people do with it. From all the time I spent in Orbiter I know how to manually fly to orbit, but that doesn't mean I don't love having the ability to push a button, get up, and go pour a cup of copy while my rocket flies itself into orbit.

Internet Gravity, space movie directed by Alfonso Cuaron. Trailer up!

I think the trailer pretty much just covers the opening scene. The bulk of the movie is about trying to survive being stranded in orbit, which could make for some interesting stuff. As long as it doesn't turn into freakin Open Water in space...

Hello from a cold wet UK.

I wasn't aware there was another kind of UK.

Internet Gravity, space movie directed by Alfonso Cuaron. Trailer up!

Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgGPTa7-vlE This is definitely the real-tech hard sci-fi movie to watch for this year. STS, Soyuz, and the ISS clearly feature prominently, and will all explode at one point or another. The movie is reported to open with a 17-minute continuous shot, and...

    News New Movie: Europa Report

Well, it's obviously to cover the fact that they have virtually no content that's even trailer-ready at this point.

    News New Movie: Europa Report

Could be interesting, but I hate the entire found footage style and, frankly, the CG looks like Voyage to the Planets vintage. Ugh. Still counting on Elysium and Star Trek to provide my sci-fi fix for this year.

Well, we've been waiting on Minecraft to get out of Java for years now, so I don't think I'll be holding my breath for any major engine improvements.

Ha, much like Orbiter, the addons are the best part. I would have quit ages ago if I could only use vanilla parts.

Gaming The Kerbal Space Program - Version 1.2.x

Yeah, those guys had some pretty big problems thrown at them with the Steam release. I ran a small Invisionfree board with a couple other people about 8 years ago and we would have browned our shorts if we had to deal with the forum catastrophe they just went through. We literally wouldn't know...

    Question O-F Suggested Reading List...

Oh yeah, totally. My bookshelves are a shine to hard sci fi, gotta pick the good stuff. Non-fiction: Project Orion by George Dyson. This will make you angry that we don't have 4000-ton interplanetary battleships riding nuclear detonations into orbit. Classic: The Moon is a Harsh Mistress...

Gaming The Kerbal Space Program - Version 1.2.x

KSP's update schedule doesn't bother me that much, because their updates seem to happen for a tangible reason. As in, when they update, there are usually significant new features being added or fixes being made. Garry's Mod updates always felt arbitrary and meaningless, like Garry just...

Gaming The Kerbal Space Program - Version 1.2.x

Nothing since January, it looks like. Like I said, a familiar Garry's Mod occurrence. Anyone can make an addon, but few people really stand by stuff like that in the long term. They get bored, disappear, and then an update breaks it. It happens.

Gaming The Kerbal Space Program - Version 1.2.x

I think I may have figured it out. There is no thrustTransform object in the model's file, so the game has no idea where to put the thrust line, therefore I have no thrust. Looks like I got Garry's Modded. An update broke the mod, and the author is long gone and not fixing anything. Damnit.
