    Question Merging objects in gmax

I know how to add objects together via the Boolean function in gmax, but is there a way to take a bunch of selected objects and combine them together at once? The Boolean only works on two objects at a time and I have a bunch of trusses to make into one object. I appreciate any guidance!

    Question Spacecraft3.dll, max2msh, and LABEL

Ooh, I'll try all that. Thanks Dr. M! And thanks for the simulator, of course!

    Question Spacecraft3.dll, max2msh, and LABEL

Oh man, don't I know! But I just HAD to see it moving, you know? And now the supports on the same wheel rotate in opposite directions.:hmm: Thanks for the advice liber! What do you mean to use for a 3-D browser? I just downloaded blender to see how it works - do I use that or am I missing...

    Question Spacecraft3.dll, max2msh, and LABEL

Thanks Eagle - that's what I needed to know. Dangit, I have over 500 objects. To save counting, I moved all the animated ones to the front (except for the transparent ones that I moved to the back). It took me a few tries before I figured out it started with zero:embarrassed: But it would be...

    Question Spacecraft3.dll, max2msh, and LABEL

Anyone know if spacecraft3.dll can specify animated parts by the LABEL tag or does it need the group number? And if so, the max2msh 1.29 beta says that it exports mesh names as LABEL tags, but none of the names for my structures are being output. Do I have to convert everything to a mesh in...

Project Solar system generator in progress

Hi Artlav - awesome work! About dual stars, IIRC, the location of everything in Orbiter is indexed off of the sun. You could add another "star" as a big planet I suppose, but one will have to be the "real" sun for location purposes. Also, dual star systems will not orbit their barycenter...

Texture Size? What is the best practice for textures? Do they need to be square power-of-two in size

    Project Large Bussard Ramjet Project

Hmm, I just thought of this - maybe two nozzles - one coming out of the side of each tokamak? Maybe incline the tokamaks so that the tangent point is at the midline? Maybe....

    Project Large Bussard Ramjet Project

OK here it is with my interpretation of Eagle's idea. It took forever to get those tubes to line up right :) buuut, I think the principle is flawed. As long as the plasma is going around the tokamaks, the net force is zero. (The new diversion tube is a mirror image on the other side going...

    Project Large Bussard Ramjet Project

Moments ago I stuck a pipe there to set it off and moved the tori up...but your suggestion is cooler. How about if I pull a cylinder off the tori at a tangent then swoop them into the nozzle. I am pretty sure gmax can do that... Thanks!

Current state of the model in Orbiter... The grey box is the size of a Shuttle-A landed and docked. Still can't figure how to put black "tiger stripes" on the glowing yellow safety area around the landing pad. I am not convinced the engine pod (the black ovoid) is the way to go. If anyone...

    Project Large Bussard Ramjet Project

Hmm, I just watched the episode of Cosmos with my girls where he talks about the ramjet. Is Sagan already taken? If there is any justice in the universe, a Bussard ramjet would be named after him. The Sagan-class interstellar ramjet testbed...:)

    Project Large Bussard Ramjet Project

Thanks Imagineer! I downloaded the Microsoft tools the other day. Once I get this thing released to spacecraft.dll, I will delve into that! I can edit programs "real good!" A legacy of the old days of BASIC and FORTRAN and Pascal - I can program, but I don't know how to do anything in modern...

Discussion Solving the problems of space combat in Orbiter

Hey Eagle, I don't know of any papers, but physicist Dr. David Brin wrote a story where a laser was used to cool a spaceship - it needed the refrigeration since it voyaged into the sun. The name of the book is Sundiver. He has a blog on which you could post the question. Either he or one of...

    Project Large Bussard Ramjet Project

Current State Here is the current state of the model -still more to do. I changed the center core to a polygon truss - I think it looks really nice - you can see the conduits and fusion fuel. Did a couple of other minor things - spent most of my time messing around with textures, which is...

    Project Large Bussard Ramjet Project

Oooo, great - I never knew about the order in the mesh. Geez, I wonder if gmax controls layering somehow...it has a hierarchy function... Hmm, if anyone knows what order max2mesh gets the stuff in and how that is controled that would be great information. I also really like the triangular...

    Project Large Bussard Ramjet Project

Hi Eagle - thanks for the comments. I am with you on minimizing polygon count, but I seem to remember from my first aborted attempt that if I texture a box with a truss it only shows one side, e.g. you look at the truss and only see the texture on the side closest to you, which would look...

    Project Large Bussard Ramjet Project

Hi all, I am getting back to Orbiter after a while away. I previously did a couple of little projects - the Stanford Torus and the Rolling Stone - just using Vinka's spacecraft.dll. What I loved to do was to fly Vespucci (a very large ramjet) from LEO, where it was constructed, up to GEO...

Project ICOVD Windmill Class Interplanetary Ramjet Development Thread

Hee hee, sounds like a ship for Capt. Jack Sparrow... Thanks! Even though the license allowed it, I thought it would be rude to presume, so thank you very much! I'll start a thread about it.
