STS-102, carrying the Leonardo MPLM and equipment for outfitting the Destiny lab brought up on STS-98. Yet another launch picture. And yet another SRB separation picture. Approaching the ISS, not quite the 'standard' rotation I imagine. PMA-3 has been moved from Unity's nadir port to the...

STS-98, carrying the Destiny lab to the ISS. FWOOOOOOOSH! - looking back at the pads. Docked to PMA-3, PMA-2 has been relocated to the Z1 truss. Destiny attached to Unity ISS after PMA-2 was attached to Destiny Oriented for re-entry, just over Northern Australia I can see KSC! I've...

    Orbiter Screenshot Thread

Well, depends on how much you actually like flying. There's no doubt that using AutoFCS is easier - and to some degree more realistic too, as real shuttle re-entries are controlled by the DAP autopilot. However, I fly 2010 without the FCS. It takes a bit of practice to get it right - I must...

Another 4 missions flown since my last batch of screenshots - STS-106. Since then, I've flown STS-92, 97, 98 and 102. STS-100 is in-progress. A few pictures from each over the next couple of posts: STS-92: OMS-2 Burn ISS PMA-3 and Z1 attached. Leaving the ISS. Pictures from STS-97...

The question about a burn time calculation

One of the things just to bear in mind - I can't remember much about how to calculate this stuff manually - but you've got metric and imperial units in the same calculations, which could (if I am not mistaken, which I may well be) produce an erroneous result.

Opinions on gun laws in your country

Similar yet slightly different law here in the UK - anybody over 18 can buy an IF (Imitation Firearm) which is what airsoft weapons are referred to as in law here. To be an IF, it has to have a body colour clearly dissimilar from a real firearm. Clear, or bright neon-electric colours are the...

    Problem Delta Glider iv explodes

Yup - winged vessels tend to disintegrate if you thrash them into the atmosphere without a care in the world. Capsules can be a little more forgiving (in my experience). There's a bunch of Orbiter tutorials out there for landing, including some on youtube. Check them out, and don't be put off...

Opinions on gun laws in your country

I'm perfectly happy with the gun laws in the UK, as a former competitive shooter, instructor and coach. You need a valid reason to own a weapon - self defence is not a reason in itself. For example, if you wanted to get a firearms permit for target shooting, you'd have to be a member of a target...

Next mission - STS-106! Yes, I'm flying every ISS shuttle mission I can, I'd have posted images from STS-88, but I had to format my hard drive since then, so no screenies from that one. Another bog-standard ISS resupply mission with nothing tricky about it. Atlantis on the pad Liftoff! SRB...

    Orbiter Screenshot Thread

Next shuttle mission now - STS-101. Another ISS resupply mission, one that actually went according to plan this time, and didn't involve me massively screwing up re-entry! Fairly uneventful mission, looking forward to the next one! Launch! SRB Sep Docked to the ISS Saying goodbye after a...

    Flight Question Suitable Mars Launcher/Spacecraft?

Hi guys, I'm planning to do a manned Mars mission, with a launch year of 2028. I'm trying to find some suitable vehicles with which to undertake this mission, taking into account the large amount of Δv required. I've attached porkchop plots for my planned launch dates from Earth and Mars. I'd...

You know you're addicted to Orbiter when...

The thing is, as I'm sure I don't need to remind anyone, our computer tech is expanding as rapidly as ever - I have absolutely no doubt that within a few years we'll have computers that could deal with textures like that absolutely no problem at all.

    General Question Space Station Construction

Due to a total HDD failure I lost everything and I've only just got back to this project. I've redesigned the station, but I've hit a problem, and I'm really needing some help. Essentially, I can fly winged craft (including the shuttle) and dock with just about anything, but rockets seem to...
