New exoplanet in habitable zone discovered - 4.5*Earth mass, 22 light years away.

What do you mean, you’ve never been to Alpha Centauri? For heaven’s sake, mankind, it’s only four light-years away, you know. (Douglas Adams) ;)

Closest approach of 433 Eros, Jan 31, 2012

Well... one must really know nothing at all about astronomy to believe that Mars can be as big as the Moon... If one never turned up their eyes to the sky you can expect one to accept everything the media is feeding one with. As for the maths, yes, I do my own calculations, as I prefer solid...

Closest approach of 433 Eros, Jan 31, 2012

The point is that those who hadn't known anything about this asteroid were, possibly, drawn in by this heading to read about it and maybe even got excited enough to want to find out more about 433 Eros in particular and astronomy in general, which isn't that bad, is it? :hmm:

You know you're addicted to Orbiter when...

When you see a plastic bag flying through the sky and your first thought is: "Well, judging by its velocity and inclination it is probably going to land near that tree..." :)

International Space Station flies by the Moon

The only small piece of information I can add is that despite those comments claiming this was an upside-down shot this is exactly how you'd have seen it from upstate New York on September 2, 2007.

Question Grail:Launch Phase - Have I understood it correctly?

This Phase begins prior to liftoff when the Spacecraft are switched to internal power during the final minute of the last built-in countdown hold at T-4 Minutes. (The Source) Would you be so kind to tell me if I have understood this bit correctly? "The countdown stops 4 minutes before the...

Question Could someone who speaks Russian translate this?

Since no one jumped in I, with your kind permission, will give it a go. 7:50 [I can’t catch the first word or two] … to send for Glushko, a chief designer from Kazan. Glushko arrived under guard to the Kremlin as a prisoner. He met Stalin and informed him about those projects we were working...

    Question UMmu&EVA&XR-2 -- Oxygen distribution

Now I can answer to my own question. I left only one man inside and used up all oxygen, then I EVA'd and I had 2 hours' worth of oxygen; when there was about only 10 minutes' worth of oxygen I jumped back in my craft (interestingly enough - while I was out exploring space the level of oxygen in...

    OHM Trajectory Optimization Tool v2.1

Are there any special settings to be able to calculate an Earth-Moon trajectory? Whenever I try to do this I get 'funny' results: OPTIMUM EARTH DEPARTURE DATE: 9/27/2017 12:32:46 - C3: 0.00036871 kmІ/secІ OPTIMUM MOON ARRIVAL DATE: 3/10/2018 16:51:23 - Body-centric Arrival Velocity: 0.89091...

    Question UMmu&EVA&XR-2 -- Oxygen distribution

So in case of utter necessity I can simply jump out of a craft, fly a bit beside it, then go back and jump out again with a full supply of oxygen thus saving LOX of the craft, can't I?

    Question UMmu&EVA&XR-2 -- Oxygen distribution

When I EVA one of my crew they get two hours' worth of oxygen. Where does this oxygen come from? Is this amount of oxygen subtracted from LOX of XR-2 and is what is left after EVA actually added back? Or does this just come from thin air when I jump out? Thanks.
