    IQ Test question

Intelligence is recognizing that if you could have any size brick, you'd only need 5. Wisdom is remembering that the hardware store doesn't sell custom-size bricks, so if you are making a shopping list for a friend, you'd need to tell him to get 10 bricks.

    News Reaction Engines News

Colorado, particularly the Denver/Colorado Springs areas, has a lot of engineering and aerospace firms. Most likely the Front Range airport was chosen because it's a good combination of both easy access (being close to Denver and on an airport) but also being away from more populated areas...

Launch News SpaceX Falcon Heavy Demo Mission (1330-1630 EST 6th Feb. 2018)

As I discovered when I watched this with my wife: Apparently they have edited (and shortened) this video: the timestamp above is no longer valid, and it does in fact now show cameras from two different boosters.

Launch News SpaceX Falcon Heavy Demo Mission (1330-1630 EST 6th Feb. 2018)

They may have switched the cameras, but it was definitely the same booster. Yes, there are slight differences in framing, but here's the last few seconds of descent: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbSwFU6tY1c&feature=youtu.be&t=37m37s At the top of both of the cameras you can see the...

Launch News SpaceX Falcon Heavy Demo Mission (1330-1630 EST 6th Feb. 2018)

I noticed this as well during the livestream. I had thought they switched the camera shortly after that point, but watching through to landing it becomes clear that it's the same feed.

    Gaming Digital Combat Simulator Thread

The real question is...what sort of hardware would you need in order for the game to actually look like that while running in VR at 90fps? :)

    Gaming RE-ENTRY spaceflight simulator

It's delivered through the Windows Store, and Windows 10 was a free upgrade, so why is that too much?

    News Hawaii false nuclear alert

As I understand it, slightly different scenario, since that was a news organization and not the government. Still...

Gaming Subnautica & Subnautica Below Zero

It would be very shady of a game to require you to pay for the final version if you already bought into early access. Typically once you buy early access, you're set for the final version. DLCs end up being extra, and if a game ends up releasing DLC while still in Early Access (see: ARK)...

    Dunkirk(2017)

I know it's not a documentary, but I went in expecting realistic historical fiction, and that's what I got for 99% of the movie...and then they turned it into fantasy in the last few minutes. I'm sure most people weren't bothered, but given the effort to which they clearly went to make every...

    Dunkirk(2017)

The movie was enjoyable for 95% of it...and then ruined by terrible physics in the last few minutes. Spoiler: Given that the airplane was so effective for so long after its engine failed, why were the pilots stressing about running out of fuel? They obviously didn't need it.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi (SPOILERS)

Sadly, Rogue One wasn't about Rogue Squadron. That would've been a fantastic movie, though! Top Gun in space, maybe...

Star Wars: The Last Jedi (SPOILERS)

Yep. One of the more egregious examples of this sort of thing I can remember in recent movies was Star Trek Into Darkness, where the two ships are slugging it out in orbit of the Moon, leaving a cloud of debris floating around them. Then, the Enterprise loses engine power, which causes it to...

Star Wars: The Last Jedi (SPOILERS)

First part can't be the only explanation since ships also fall "down" when destroyed.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi (SPOILERS)

It's fairly common knowledge that the original trilogy space battles were heavily based on footage of WWII fighter footage--I figured the bombing scene was just more of the same. Meh. Speaking of terrible space physics, did anyone else notice that while Snoke's command ship was firing on...
