Does any one know if there is any addon that has 3d clouds. By 3D i meen it is something that you can move through that has depth. I find atmospheric flight event-less. It would be good to have clouds to fly through.

Only for 2006 I think.

Looks good. Does it work for 2010? Does it effect view of a planet from orbit?

There's also this one, which makes actual clouds. Equally old, I don't know if it works. I felt it was a valiant effort, but last time I used it, the clouds spawned in too close to me and popped in too much for my tastes.

worir1 - You should write about this in Orbiter 2010P1 project's page. Maybe developers will accept your idea and realize it in official Orbiter's release.

there is no developers, only the good doctor, and last time I remember, he's more the kind of guy who's good on the physics part of the simulation, not the visual, so if you want to make requests, it's much more realistic to post it into add-on request subforum, or in the OVP subforum so that the Client developers there can know about this.

I would reccomend doing so on the graphics client end. D3D9 has been somewhat quiet lately, so if you post the idea there it might catch on.

Well, you could create clouds as 3D objects, and set them up as part of a surface base.... that would work I think, specially for low clouds.

Other option would be to configure them as a spacecraft and perhaps mess with exhausts...

Base making or simple spacecraft configuration requires no coding

Only notepad skills! Search for tutorials regarding spacecraft3.dll.

Nevertheless my ideas were meant to the community in general as an alternative way to get clouds.

I see some possibilities.

1: solid mesh clouds as custom base meshes
pros:
-easy to make and position
-relativelly low framerate impact

cons:
-static
-either transparent from inside or doublefaced with unrealistic look inside

2: multiple transparent planes/meshes as a vessel
pros:
-better look from the inside

cons:
-heavier FPS impact
-transparency issues

3. Particle system with long duration settings as vessel
pros: probably best visual effect

cons:
-severe FPS impact
-possible coding problems as you must generate it at start up
