A new feature is in developing from Fausto: simulation of propellent boil-off for the 3rd stage of Antares Long Range. If the volume of propellents goes under a defined limit an alarm sounds. A new beta will be ready soon.

Sorry to keep pestering you with requests, but is there a possibility I could get a look at the boil off model being used? I've been wanting to implement that on the Shuttle-D's big LH2 tanks, but I have no idea how to model it.

I just flew an Antares to my space station last night. I am looking forward to the next release, ready to fly it and take some nice screencaps of it.

I read only today your message (sorry :blush: :embarrassed: ). I'm not the creator of the code for the boil off, but I'll leave a message for those who did so to make it available.

First of all thx for a great addon.
Have some questions though concerning the Antares LR (2.51). I'm not sure but is it underpowered or perhaps underfuelled for a return from Lunar orbit.
These are the stats. Starting from a lunar orbit (100km alt, close tp 0 deg inc.) having a full tank. Using LTMFD a TEI solution is computed requiring a dv of 1066 m/s. The subcequent burn to this dv depletes the fuel down to 9.54K (from the original 19K). The final aim of this mission is to end up with a docking to ISS hence im targetting an PeA of 300KM (just for training) but discover that there is not enough fuel left for setting up a circular orbit of the earth. At time of total fuel depletion during the retroburn at PeA to setup a LEO the orbit is elliptical (PeA 254K, Ecc 0.4849) - hence im now "stuck" in an elliptical orbit.
I can of course "refuel" using the scenario but that is cheating:). Anyhow....shouldnt the AntaresLR be able to enter LEO from a suitable lunar orbit under its own power - or am I doing something wrong here. I think its fair to estimate that the tanks should be full prior to start of the TEI burn (Using other means to get the AntaresLR to a lunar Orbit).

No. It is designed to get your back to Earth, no more. Just as Apollo. If you are looking to perform an Earth orbit insertion on your trip back, you need a lot more dV, about as much as you needed to get to the moon in the first place, which again, the Antares LR cannot do by itself, that is why you have the final stage still attached to do the TLI.

Coming back from the Moon you need to just enter the atmosphere and finish up the flight.

I seem to have come across a bug using Antares v2.51

I have two Antares in the scenario and this seems to make the ship confused. I have one that was just docked to the space station, and now another one about to de-orbit, and I find it impossible to get the SM to jettison. It just keeps beeping at me with the Master Alarm light flashing. I tried both VC click points and using key strokes, no luck.

I deleted the other Antares (both are SRs if that means anything) and reloaded the scenario and now I can jettison the SM.

The confusion seems to extend to the crew as well. One with the crew sent into the station, the other being full, I saw the empty Antares fill with people, then delete the second one and all of a sudden it is back to being empty aside from the commander.

Yes, I know this bug. Antares is implemented to work alone. This is not good, but the source code pays the inexperience of the very beginning of my C++ learning path.. i'm sorry for that, but I can do anything at the moment.. :shrug:

Ah ok. Its not a big deal, just wanted to make sure you knew it existed. Shuttle Fleet has similar issues too.

It seems that the HES-5 spawns without fuel after release from the Jarvis-M in ALR-3 and ALR-4.

Edit:
Resolved. If anyone else has this, it is a low FPS issue. Try in 0.1x time. Thank you, fausto!

I think there is some conflict with UMMUFA. Try to deselect it in modules section inside launchpad window or try to install Antares and its related addons in a clean Orbiter installation

I am not so sure about that, UMMUFA seems to be doing its job there at the end where it sees an item with no docking ports and thus ignores the vessel.

I've been unable to dock the Antares to the Torricelli module. As I move in to dock, the ships simply pass through each other, making docking impossible.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong or what's missing in my download. I've seen the photos here showing the two ships docked. I'm just unable to do it on my own.

Any opinions?

The documentation states:

SHORTCUTS:
G opens the docking port to enable connection to the support ship.
K activates internal instruments.

I've tried this and have had no success. "G" does not seem to do anything.

Is the Torricelli still attached to its launch vehicle? As long as it is still attached to its launch vehicle, you cannot dock to Torricelli as it is not a vessel in the scenario.

Press 'J' to release Torricelli, assign an IDS frequency to its docking port and then you can dock anything to it.

To be able to dock to the Torricelli while it is still being attached to the launch vehicle, you would have to add a docking port to the launch vehicles config file to be able to dock with it.

I've undocked it from its launch vehicle.

How do I go about setting a IDS Freq. to it?
