The launch team at Vandenberg Air Force Base's Western Test Range are ready for the second launch of the Ares 1 and Orion. This is the same capsule that was launched in September from KSC. This flight tests the processing facilities at VAFB as well as demenstrating the reusability of Orions. This flight will be a short one but will put both launch and recovery operations to the test. The Orion will be landing in the Pacific Orion Recovery Zone (PORZ). This is the last unmanned test flight scheduled and if all goes to plan the first manned launch of the Ares 1 will be early next year at KSC.

UPDATE December 7 2011:
AOS-02 has splashed down in the PORZ under two miles from the recovery ship. This concludes the operational testing for Ares/Orion and paves the way for the future of NASA.

Next flight is STS-206 to the SSF. Space Shuttle Enterprise will be delivering the first operational OMV to the station and overseeing the vehicles initial checkout. This OMV, callsign Pegasus, will ferry modules to build the Helios Station. On board the OMV will be the second Communications satellite that will form the Helios Comm network (HCN), like the satellite launched from OMV-00. Launch is scheduled for Janurary 7 2012.
