How far along is this at the moment? Is the Saturn V implemented yet? (No problem if it isnt, just add velcro)

Unfortunately, I cant help with testing this yet, cant download something that big on this computer :(

New file is up.

[ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=6101"]Apollo Application Project: Alpha Release[/ame]

Unfortunately Orbit-Hangar threw a fit when I tried to update the original so I was forced to delete it and re-upload.

If you downloaded the initial "Super-Ultra-Alpha release" I strongly recommend either deleting it, or installing the updated package on a clean install of Orbiter to prevent conflicts. Many file names and paths have changed.

PS:
This file is significantly such more compact (24 mb) and all vessels have been re-compiled in "release" mode.

Gumdrop works now:thumbup:

Although the VC seems odd, I think there should be a panel only there isn't. Could you take a look at the attached screenshot and tell me if it's supposed to be that way?

Edit:

I was trying out a few different aborts when I tried to eva a UMMU while the capsule was on the ground, and Orbiter crashed. Looking though the log didn't yield anything I could point at as why Orbiter crashed, but it does have a bunch of missing files that may be causing what I see in the VC.

Yes there's supposed to be a panel there.

You're the second person to report mesh issues in the VC but I have no clue what could be causing it.

On the bright side I was able to reproduce and isolate your "EVA while landed bug". It should be fixed in the next patch. Long story short, the launch abort function deletes and redefines the existing flight model, docking ports etc... The EVA function was querying a docking point that was no longer valid.

Alpha Release number 2 is live.

New in this release
  • Interactive VC for Apollo Command Module.
  • "Complex" Flight Models for launch and reentry.
  • 10 Lunar surface bases. These bases reflect the sites officially targeted by NASA for human exploration as of 10/30/1969. In alphabetical order they are...
    • Copernicus Crater: A lunar Impact crater on the northern edge of Mare Insularum. It has a prominent ray system and multiple central peaks, which were the intended landing site of Apollo 19.
    • Descartes Highlands: A high plateau with prominent layering formed by ejecta from the Alphonsus and Descartes impact events. It was visited by Apollo 16 in April of 1972.
    • Fra Mauro Highlands: A hilly geological area surrounding Mare Imbrium, and thought to be composed of ejecta from the impact which formed Imbrium. Fra Mauro was the intended landing site of Apollo 13, prior to it's in-flight failure and was visited by Apollo 14 in February of 1971.
    • Gassendi/Clarkson Formation: Two overlapping craters at the northern edge of Mare Humorum, that were partially inundated with lava during the formation of the Mare. They were the intended landing site of Apollo 18.
    • Hadley Rille / Apennine Escarpment: A valley on the eastern edge of Mare Imbrium bordered by the 'Apennine Front' mountain range. It was visited by Apollo 15 in July of 1971.
    • Marius Hills: A large expanse of volcanic domes and suspected lava tubes on the southern edge of the Ocean of Storms. The Marius Hills were the intended landing site of Apollo 14 prior to Apollo 13's failure, and a proposed alternate landing site for Apollo 20.
    • Ocean of Storms: AKA Oceanus Procellarum. The original landing site of Surveyor 3, it was visited by Apollo 12 in November 1969. This is only instance thus far of Human explorers "catching up with" an extra-terrestrial probe.
    • Sea Of Tranquility: AKA Mare Tranquillitatis, location of the first human footsteps on the moon.
    • Taurus / Littrow Valley: A lunar valley on the southeastern edge of Mare Serenitatis formed by a massive impact event between 3.8 and 3.9 billion years ago. Visited by Apollo 17 in December 1972.
    • Tycho Rim: Tycho is a very prominent impact crater located in the southern lunar highlands and named after the Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe. It's rim has a noticeably different composition from the surrounding surface and was the intended landing site for both Surveyor 7 and Apollo 20.
  • Numerous bug fixes major and minor.

I had hoped that somehow the VC would have been fixed by this update, but there's still no panel. I can see the switchguards and the switches inside them(and flick them), and the new ball shows up and works, but I'm without that panel. Here's my Orbiter.log from the my screencap taking session:

Dumb question - is there a way to spawn LM with legs colapsed in launch position or manually stow them in sim?

I am still unable to reproduce this bug but are two things I want you to try...

  • Open up CM_VC.msh and change the material of "VC_ControlPanel", meshgroup 1, to something other than "Panel". Preferably one of the materials that is rendering properly.
  • Change the texture pointer of "VC_ControlPanel" to "0".

If one of these causes the panel to appear that will narrow down the possible culprits. If they don't then I'm back to square one.

Not from within the sim no, but again that's a simple thing to change.

The historical LMs gear were spring loaded and thus could not be retracted once extended. That said the AAPO LM's gear are programed to reset should the LM be attached to a booster.

Alternately you can retract the gear by altering the "GEAR" line in the .scn and setting both values to 0.

Hello Hlynkacg,

I've done a search for ".dds" through the Meshes folder of the latest ZIP (AAPO_Alpha_2013_06_11.zip):
Here's the result:
Code:
Searching 29 files for ".dds"

Lots of DDS seems to be located in folders that do not exist (e.g. "AbortTowertex", "CMtex", "Cratertex" or "DockingProbetex").

Do I have the right ZIP? The "silvergray.dds" does not to be in the ZIP anywere.

Maybe this list helps

I am still unable to reproduce this bug but are two things I want you to try...

  • Open up CM_VC.msh and change the material of "VC_ControlPanel", meshgroup 1, to something other than "Panel". Preferably one of the materials that is rendering properly.
  • Change the texture pointer of "VC_ControlPanel" to "0".

If one of these causes the panel to appear that will narrow down the possible culprits. If they don't then I'm back to square one.

:uhh:

I'm no developer, so what you asked I can't quite process into actions. I did open CM_VC.msh in note pad, then in Mesh Wizard and looked around, but I really don't know how to do either of those things. Could you give me instructions on how?

Read section 4 of 3dmodel.pdf in your orbiter/orbitersdk/doc folder.

Seems like for most things in Orbiter, there's a manual that you forgot/didn't know to look into, and then you have to tinker in notepad to get things done.

Anyway, I tried 0 and 2 in the MATERIAL line but the end result was the same as with 1(default). Changing TEXTURE to 0 caused the panel to appear(MATERIAL was set back to 1). I'm including the screencap I took of the result, and if you need me to do anything more to help you fix this, just ask.
