The big pink pipes at the end are actually the rather famous water channel ("Umlaufkanal") for the hydrological institute at Tiergarten, they test ship propellers in it. The building was designed by Ludwig Leo, a pretty famous architect, despite his buildings being only in Berlin and only build in just a few years early in his career before he became university teacher.
