Does anyone know if Orbiter 2006 supports black holes? Or objects that act like black holes? Or any addon that can be used as a black hole. I just thought it was strange that there aren't any addons for those.

Orbiter does not model relativity, so you can't have black holes.

create a very small planet, like a asteroid , very dense and with a blue electric atmosphere.
also you can add a jet of plasma or ejected matter from the hole.;)

You could simulate it but what would be the point unless you put it in Sols Postion and used the acreation disk as the light source ?

Well, no, not "matter". However they do emmit what are called relatavistic jets, ultra high speed jets of ionized gas that that escape at notable %s of c.

The black holes don't eject anything except hawking radiation, but the accretion disks of them cause jets. But the main problem is: Even when you create a 100 solar mass large object of the size of New York, you won't feel it like it should. It is just an extremely heavy star and when you get close, nothing special happens.

Not until you get within a certain distance ( 1/3 the diameter of the star ) and then you're in the fun zone. That puts you within the area of the acreation disk. To escape from area you'll have to make a burn on a parabolic arc to escape velocity or your stuck. Do your math carefully of you'll pass through the event horizon and it becomes a one way trip to the center of the singularity. Don't worry, as you pass through the event horizon, tidal forces will shred you to sub atomic particle. :sorry:

But don´t worry ...be shred to particles could take a lot of time, perhaps forever.

Long before you get to the event horizon, your ship and body will be torn apart into their molecular constituents... (The gravitational difference between the nose and tail of your ship would be enough to rip it apart...)

Orbiter does simulate gravitational torque on orbiting objects... I wonder if it scales up to that sort of mass.

Does time stop inside a black hole?

Well you experience a phenomena known as time dilation. Once the object has passed the event horizon, it would take an infinite amount of time for light to come back to a distant observer, therefore giving the illusion that the object is "frozen".

Acually, It's theorized that the tidal forces get smaller the larger the mass of a blakHole gets. On a 10 solar mass hole, the forces are ferocious because the area of interaction is so small.

For a 100 solar mass hole ( and larger ) the tidal force is more spread out because the area of interaction is much larger.

The area of interaction for a million solar mass black hole ( typicaly found in galactic centers ) is so large , that the tidal forces might be survivable. The information comes from the study of gas and stars rotating around around the inner center of our own galaxy.

It's been discovered that the Andromeda Galaxy has TWO black holes at it's galactic center. Can you immagine plotting a course for a parabolic arc to " thread the needle " between them to get a gravity boost ?

You could always try setting the Sun to have a huge mass (like 5,000,000 times what it is now). I've tried it, and well, just don't touch anything that could possible move the craft from it's starting postion, like the throttle. Failure to do so will result in you being ejected from the solar sytems at many times the speed of light. :suicide:

As a side note, doing this also makes the planets orbit the sun extremely fast.
