After watching for over 12 hours, which reminded me of watching paint dry, they won,t be done untill early Tues morning, and have stopped live coverage.

Was this the one with the idiot captain that wanted to do a "salute" to the nearby island or something?

Don't forget the part were he "fell" in a lifeboat and while in there decided "Hey, it's nice and cozy here, let's just stay!".

Seems that things are going pretty well. It takes more time than expected, but in such a complex operation you have a lot of unknowns to deal with.

When the roll will be reduced to 24° from the vertical, gravity will finish the work. Ballast control will be crucial to avoid the ship from capsizing on the other side, which would be a disaster.

A great disaster... being a commander it's a very huge work of responsability! He mustn't had left the boat like a frightned boy! Maybe the greatest italian disaster by the last twenty years. I hope that the families who have lost someone in this tragedy have peace and justice.

Right, the ship was turned over successfully, and is now resting on the platform that was built beneath it.

The former underside of the wreck really looks wrecked...

Luckily it all went good so far, lifting it up again will be another major hazard, since during this process, a lot of pollution (and corpses) could flow out of the ship again.

But still - this now is much better than splitting the wreck on location, even when it is expensive.

There's still two bodies unaccounted for, right?

Yes. It is possible that they had been already washed into the sea, but it is more likely that there are remains in the ship. Possibly in a very very bad condition... wet anaerobic decay is pretty messy, not like the bog bodies found in swamps (because the acidic water is missing)

The damage was quite extensive. Presumably from the weight of the ship pressing against the rocks.
Early on in the stage, I thought they were going to repair the ship as they were talking about it being a slow job as they don,t want to damage the ship any further.

It was just few days ago that they found some human rests, presumably of the missing woman.
There are (were) 2 people still missing.
