After three years playing Orbiter in a notebook, in istalled it in a desktop.

The inline client worked well, with a huge FPS improvement.

I installed the D3D9 client. The framerate dropped from D3D7 and I got these images below. I'm using Windows XP with DirectX 9.0c and a GeForce 7300 GS.

Note the PMA.

It happens on the Moon, too.

It looks well only in this POV.

Here's orbiter log:

Configuration problem, card problem, system problem, user problem or client problem?

I get these same problems consistently, usually related to rendering. I'm going to guess it's a problem with your computer. Not all computers can handle D3D9 well with some of the addons out there (Donamy's ISS A to Z, Dragon, and Shenzhou works great with D3D9 though).

Well, you got a pretty hideous GPU ther, but still, if you say it is DX9c compatible...maybe update the drivers?

maybe update the drivers?

OUCH

I went to check the installed driver, it's from 2007!

Updating...

Update: It didn't work, the problem persists. I'm considering to update the video card itself, but I don't have too much money to spend in a new card...

Looks like problems with vertex/face transfrmation.

Make sure you have up-to date stable drivers (314.22-desktop-winxp-32bit-international-whql for Geforce 6600, 8600 and 9700 works really stable - at least for me)

Are you using some tweaking/overclocking software for your GPU? Overclocked GPUs sometimes are causing missing faces)

Reinstall dx9c and directX Runtime libraries: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=9033

Tick "disable nearclip compatibility mode" in advanced setup of d3d9

Drivers are updated, I downloaded at nVidia website.

I don't know if there's some kind of overclocking - I got this PC from an uncle this week. Since there's a folder called "COMPUTER PROGRAMS" here, I presume he doesn't know what is overclocking.

I tried all kinds of D3D9 configurations, but the problem persists with any vessels. The things I still have to try are reinstalling DX 9.0c and make sure the video card really isn't overclocked.

There has been a few reports of similar issues. The GPU should be well D3D9 compatible so, it must be some kind of driver problem. Remember to update the DirectX as well not just the drivers.

I updated both (DX and the video drivers), but the problem still persists.

Anyway, even a low-end 600 series seems better than the 7300 GS, I'll update the card when possible.

Hi sorindafabico

Excuse the necropost, but I had the same thing (WinXP 32bit w/ older nvidia cards). It started for me when I went from D3D9 R9 to R10 or R11. I haven't tried R12 yet. Maybe try R9 to see what happens?

I posted my original observation here:

http://www.orbiter-forum.com/showthread.php?p=421651&postcount=2445

I haven't found a fix or workaround but it appears to be a rare issue with older hardware.
