Still too much thrust, especially on the CBCs. Each CBC is equipped with one PW&R RS-68 engine which provides 2886000 N of thrust. In this add-on each CBC RS-68 provides over 3.3 million N of thrust, so it is seriously overpowered.

Maybe in the addon they're supposed to be the uprated RS-68As? The RS-68A is supposed to run at around 3.12MN, which isn't quite 3.3MN but it's closer. Or maybe they're RS-68Bs, which presumably are even more powerful?

These are the specs I found online~

DELTA IV COMMON BOOSTER CORE (CBC)
Engine: Rocketdyne RS-68
Length: 40.8 m
Diameter: 5.13 m
Stage mass: 226,400 kg
Oxidizer: liquid oxygen
Fuel: liquid hydrogen
Propellant mass: 199,640 kg
Thrust: 2,891 kN SL, 3,314 kN vac
Burn time: 246 s
Attitude control: Engine hydraulically gimbaled for pitch/yaw control. Roll for single-CBC vehicles is provided by vectoring the RS-68 turbine exhaust gases; roll for Heavy vehicle is provided by gimbaling the LRB engines.
Burn sequence: Delta IV-H: 100% thrust at liftoff, throttled to 60% at 56 s, throttled-up to 100% at 252-257 s, cut-off at 327 s, separation at 332 s. All others: 100% thrust, cut-off at 246 s, separation at 251 s.
INTERSTAGE ADAPTER
The CBC has an overall diameter of 5 m, so the interstage is tapered down to 4-m diameter for the Delta IV-M and M+ (4,2) configurations that use a 4-m cryogenic second stage. The interstages for the Delta IV-M+ (5,2), M+ (5,4), and Heavy configurations have a 5-m diameter cylinder.
DELTA IV STAGE 2
Two second stage configurations are offered on Delta IV, a 4-m version and a 5-m version. Both second stages use the Delta III RL10B-2 engine. Specifications below are for the 4-m version with figures for the 5-m version, where different, in parentheses.
Engine: Pratt & Whitney RL10B-2
Length: 12.2 m (13.7 m)
Diameter: 4.0 m (5.0 m)
Stage mass: 24,170 kg (30,710 kg)
Oxidizer: liquid oxygen
Fuel: liquid hydrogen
Propellant mass: 21,320 kg (27,220 kg)
Thrust: 110.1 kN vac
Burn time: 850 s (1,125 s)

Well, it should be changed to SL thrust as currently it races out of SLC-37B waay too fast for a Heavy. The Delta IV Heavy is a slow-riser. See this video of the first launch of a Delta IV Heavy on Dec. 21 2004. Note how it takes about 10 seconds just to climb the length of the Mobile Service Tower at 330 ft.

Right now this add-on has the initial climb rate that of a Shuttle or Atlas V 551 which makes use of solids. Also the RS-68's perform a throttle down prior to shut-down and jettison, something currently not simulated.

Thanks for all the input. I believe I have found the problem.
I haven't been defining isp_ref or p_ref in createthruster.
So the engines haven't been pressure-dependent. After changing this it now takes
just about 10 seconds to clear the Mobile Service Tower.
I will upload an update sometime soon.

Another thing noted is that the CBC LOX vents are on the wrong side. The vents should be on the side facing the MST.

I also want ULA on the fairings - ULA has the responsibility of the EELV, including the Delta IV Heavy!

Maybe you should also make variants of the Delta IV - the Medium variants (Medium base, (4,2) with solid rocket motors, and (5,2) and (5,4) with fairing the same width as the Heavy)!

I have the other variants just about completed and a more detailed base.

Thanks for showing us updates - it's quite interesting! What are some of the enhancements you are planning to provide us?

BTW, do you have any plans for some autopilot? :)

Possibly, not really sure of the best way to implement it.

Now I'm really wondering if we could carry over some of the technologies to Atlas V and Delta II, that's what I'm thinking... And for those, maybe also a greater array of flexibility options because of its interchangeability through options for how many boosters (SRB/GEMs; Atlas V: two HLV CCB LRBs) as well as payload fairings (Delta II: 9.5-feet diameter aluminum and two 10-feet diameter fairings; Atlas V: three lengths each of 4-meter diameter aluminum and 5-meter diameter composite fairings), and maybe future updates could also feature other options such as a "common upper stage" for the Delta IV and the Atlas V...

By the way, I can really put a Shuttle-PB into LEO like the OTV-1 did for the Atlas V as well as put payloads into geosynchronous orbit!

I'm kind of thinking about these that you may consider, along with the autopilot above:
  • Delta II and Atlas V (above)
  • More payloads, maybe including commercial satellites
  • Further future upgrade options for this as well as Atlas V
  • Payload fairing jettison before CBC shutdown option?
