Favorite Space Movie?

Star Wars saga here, all 6 movies #1. Then I would say Apollo 13 probably, Stargate, Event Horizon. :)

I am going to go with tex on this one, I really like the 3rd one the most though,

Almost forgot Contact, great movie that was!

Count me in for Apollo 13 as well.

Star Wars is great too, but in a different way for me, I don't really watch it for the "space" factor though.

Specifically in Star Wars, I enjoy exploring the Expanded Universe as it builds the excellent base of the movies.

2001: A Space Odyssey

In addition to being the most technically accurate space movie (thanks to Kubrick and Clark) it's also the most intellectually interesting movie to me. It's not as exciting as Apollo 13 (my number 2), but it's a film I can immerse myself in for a few hours and let my brain just soak it up. When I finally bought a DVD player, the first two movies I bought were 2001 and the 1960's version of The Manchurian Candidate. I have seen 2001 over and over. Love it.

And then, praise the Lord, along comes a little sim called Orbiter, and here I am flying Discovery around the solar system...life is good!

Dark Star?

N.

I can tell you my least favorite. Armageddon

I second that!!!

13 was good... but I hate the launch graphics
I would choose Stargate/Contact/Star Trek

One of my favorite to watch is an older one called "Marooned" with Gregory Peck, Gene Hackman & David Janssen.
For mindless fun, I enjoy watching "Journey to the Far Side of The Sun"

Favorites: Apollo 13, 2001 and Serenity. Red Planet is also pretty nice. And "Star Trek - First contact".

Hated: Mission to Mars. Armageddon (except for the Russian cosmonaut, who is quite a laugh). All Star Wars movies except "The Empire Strikes Back".

A coolness price goes out to

Georges Méliès - Le Voyage Dans La Lune

and especially to the Genius of of

Fritz Lang - Die Frau im Mond (Excerpt)

I 4th that!

2001 is by far my favorite movie.
Right after that comes Silent Running and Dark Star.
Contact certainly ist one of my favorite movies too.

Series-wise beats nothing Babylon 5!!! The series is completely scripted through all seasons and makes a hell lot of references to itself. I watch the series and the corresponding movies roughly 6 times a year. (a lot of silence in space too!)
Star Trek is just great. I grew up with it after all!
Star Gate is very enjoyable too.
Star Wars somehow never really had a grip on me. A great series of movies and certainly one of the most massive ones in existence. I guess I never invested enough interest in it.
Battlestar Galactica is really good too!!!

Edit: I wrote while two posts spawned. The 4th is regarding the ****tyness of Armageddon. And thanks to Urwumpe I remembered that Firefly/Serenity is one of my great favorites too!

Edit2: Censorship sucks ass!

Edit3: And it is not smart enough to censor Edit2 :D

Edit4:
Oh and TSpenguin, its Silent Running not Running Silent.

My favorite would have to be dark star as well.
But if you want a real good laugh, you gotta go for the green slime.

Oh and TSpenguin, its Silent Running not Running Silent.

Favourite: Apollo 13

Likes: The Right Stuff, Capricorn One, 2001, Star Wars Episodes IV, V, VI.

Dislikes: Armageddon, Deep Impact or any other Holywood 'blockbuster' that tries to be a 'space movie'.

I haven't seen the Star Trek movies, but I'm sure I wouldn't like them.

Forbidden Planet was pretty good for its time. Right Stuff ranks right up there - A tie with Apollo 13 in my book.
