Heya!

I was a really passionate Orbiter pilot about 15-20 years ago, but then got sucked into flight simming and KSP for an extended period of time. KSP is still really nice, but I feel like I've taken it to its absolute limit with mods and stuff, so got the urge to check out Orbiter again. I have to admit that I was quite lost since after the open sourcing of the code I didn't really understand what version I should go with and how it all worked and then stopped checking for updates for quite a bit. So imagine my delight after a long, long time checking the forums that 2024 version had been released!

These days I run exclusively Linux and MacOS, but fortunately Orbiter was pretty easy to get going with Winetricks, Proton and Lutris. Getting around 600-800fps with everything cranked to the max, which is quite nice.

Back in the day I was quite adamant that a sim shouldn't be used with time acceleration, so you can imagine that I also burned out on Orbiter since my dockings to the ISS took 6-12 hours in real time. I even flew Apollo 8 in real time across sessions over months. Imagine having the time now I'm in my early 40's!

I was pretty happy to note that after a few days of reacquainting myself with the tools and MFD's that it all came back to me pretty quick. Now I'm spending time exploring which mods work and which don't since it seems to be hard to predict. But already went to the ISS, the lunar orbit and back on the XR2. KSP kept me more than familiar with orbital mechanics at least!

So yeah, looking forward to doing missions and learning the tools more in depth again. This time with time acceleration, though!
