I've been kicking around the idea of creating a space station addon, both as a way to demo some modular code I'd like to make available, and as kind of of spiritual successor to Kulch's Mir-2 station.

The idea is to make each of the half-dozen some-odd modules have some unique functionality qua orbiter addon, i.e. something cool you can do with it in the sim.

I'm kind of short on ideas, I'd love suggestions.

Movable interior cam to give the impression of first-person floating through the station.

Right now my list is:

Core/service module.
4-port docking and airlock node.
Some sort of telescope/observation module, similar to the Apollo CSM sextant.
Propellant storage modules.

GWS Mission requirements... Many of these items are common with ISS, others are my idea of what the next generation Space Station should incorporate.

Have fun. Word reader is available at Microsoft.com.

Have you ever seen addons from a long since silent developer, username: Greg Burch? He did some brilliant things with Modular Space stations called Space Station Building Blocks 4.1.

https://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=3177

The companion spacecraft and its launch vehicle Big SpacePlane.

https://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=3124

I can't recall but he had at least 50 different modules and hardware pieces and many animated pieces including a gravity wheel for space station building in a single addon. There are also many other great spacecraft.

Anyhow he seems to be done with Orbiter and reportedly has given permission for developers to "reverse engineer" his addons. I would be so super pleased if someone took his work as a starting point and brought it to 2016. His library on Orbiter Hanger Mods is extensive.

There is also a great addon someone else made to manage module payload loading,

Big space plane 4.0 scenario generator 1.1:

https://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=3426

I was just considering downloading Orbiter 2010 so I could play with these again. I used to load up and fly modules to mars and erect a station in orbit using the Big SpacePlane and the XR5 Vanguard.

I hope this peaks your interest.

Hi,

for orbiter 2010 I did the TG Habitat module:

https://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=6522

which has a series of functions that you may find interesting for your needs:

- number of internal views where you can navigat to give the sense of actually going around the hab
- other astronauts floating around
- consumables that actually gets consumed and that if go to zero make the astronauts die
- waste that gets accumulated and need to be dumped
- regular maintenance operations to be performed by astronauts in EVA
- a "realtime" option: basically when you close the sim the actual time gets registered, and when you reopen it it calculates how much time has passed and set the simulation (ships positions, consumables etc) as if the sim where open and running for all the time that orbiter was off.

Hope it helps!

cheers
Fred
