HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- German rocket scientist Konrad Dannenberg, a member of the Wernher von Braun team that helped put man on the moon, has died at an Alabama rehabilitation centre. He was 96.

His wife said he died yesterday of natural causes.

Dannenberg had a role in developing the Redstone, Jupiter and Saturn rockets. The Saturn was the one that put the first American astronaut on the moon.

His wife, Jackie Dannenberg, said a public memorial for Dannenberg will be held Friday at the Davidson Center in the Space & Rocket Center in the city of Huntsville.
