Motherships/Carriers?

I've been looking on AVSIM and OrbitHangar lately, but I can't seem to find any deep-space motherships/carriers that I can use to dock several DG-IVs, addon landers, and fuel pods. I'm looking into something fairly complex, like the Vespucci D that I found. I've also tried the James Cook, but for some reason, it crashes my Vista laptop every time I try to either add it into a scenario or load a scenario already preloaded with the JC.

Does anyone have any recommendations for me? Thanks for any and all help.

Vista sometimes has conflicts with Orbiter on top of that. I am not enirely sure of what you are loking for though that you can use the DGIV with it.

Vista doesn't crash on anything else in Orbiter; the OS is buggy as hell, but Orbiter doesn't seem to have any issues with it besides the JC.

What I'm looking for is this; any spacecraft that has several dock points along the body and is intended for interplanetary travel. I would just dock DGIVs to the carrier while in orbit over Earth, then begin my tour of the Solar System. The DGIVs would be used as landers; I would leave the mothership in orbit, then undock a DGIV and go planetside. After touring that planet, I would return to orbit, dock with the mothership, prep for interplanetary burn, and repeat the process using another DGIV. When all my DGIVs get low on fuel, I would use docked fuel pods and the mothership's internal pods to refuel everything using my favorite little Fuel MFD.

Is that clear enough? Thanks for any help I can get.

Your best bet might be 'building' your own out of Greg Burch's Space Station Building Blocks 4.1. Also close to what you want could be Hius, [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=3042"]Hius Interstellar Ramjet 070823[/ame].

Bunneh,
You could give Deepstar a try. It comes with a pair of landers. If you want complexity, nothing beats Exploreur. It's got some very interesting modeling of equipment operation and random failures which you have to go EVA to repair.

Thank you, sir. Those are currently downloading and appear to be excellent craft. Thanks for the information! If anyone could suggest more, I'm open for those as well.

EDIT:

I'm trying to get the Exploreur set to work...the Remora dropship doesn't like reentry all too well, it appears, and still burns up no matter what I try. I've been trying to reenter the Remora on Earth from LEO, but it just won't have any part of that.

Any ideas on how to get this baby planetside in anything other than a debris cloud?

EDIT 2:

Still no joy on the Remora, but as for interplanetary missions I've come up with an idea. I'm going to use the Vespucci D as a mothership, use the Station Building Blocks 41 pack to build a base around it, and then dock some fuel pods, a couple Remoras, a Firefly with full payload, two DGIVs, and two Deepstar landers to the contraption. I'm using the Vespucci since it has a Bussard collector, and that's the only way to travel to every celestial body in the Solar System with so many craft and keep them fueled the entire duration.

Another one to consider is the Orion nuclear pulse propulsion (atom bombs) ship, which is realistic and comes with landers. This was actually proposed in real life back in the 50s and 60s. The realistic nature forces you to conserve fuel, but allows you to explore Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn systems.

One of my favorite ships to fly around in is the [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=2136"]Intrepid[/ame], just because of it's unique (i.e. not based on Discovery from 2001) design. Just be sure to put your DGIV's in safe mode before you try an aero-capture. Also take a look at the rest of the author's work on OH, which includes a construction station for Intrepid as well as a couple of other fairly unique interplanetary ships.

I'm currently in the process of designing a series of Bussard Ramjet propelled inter-planetary ships (I decided on this because I've tried out the Hius, but it isn't very good in my opinion), all with an inter-changeable ramjet attachment system (for different types of ramjets, such as different powers, versions for lunar landings, and so on).

At least one of these will be a carrier ship, maybe two (one light, one heavy), and all of the ships will be UMMU compatible, so both the carriers will be able to hold between 25 and 50 people. But that might be to difficult to use, so I might need to split them into groups of 5 or 10, in different hab modules or something...

However, they are still in the design phase, so don't hold your breath...

on avsim.com is a super star destroyer add-on, which still works with the current orbiter version, when you do some tweaks.
