Details:
A new nova, PNV J18205200-2822100, discovered on October 25th, has now broken the unaided eye brightness threshold of magnitude 6.0, with the latest report from New Zealand of 5.4. ( due to the report on November 8th)
PNV J18205200-2822100 is in the teapot of Sagittarius between Kaus Borealis (lambda Sagittarii and Kaus Media (delta Sagittarii). Sagittarius is sinking in the southwestern sky right after dusk, affording only a very narrow window from mid-northern latitudes (Southern hemisphere is much better). But theres still time to snatch a view of this amazing stellar explosion.
Tonight (Nov.16th), i go back to the world heritage site: Sukhothai in Thailand (17° N) to have a challenge. Venus, the evening star is my first guide. then the spout of the Sagittarius Teapot. As effected by the light pollution from nearby town, i can’t see it with unaided eye. But in the image, compare with nearby HIP 90012, i think the Magnitude is ≈ 6.0.
For the foreground, Wat Mahathat in Sukhothai was founded by Sri Indraditya, between 1292 and 1347 as the main temple of the city as well as the ancient Sukhothai Kingdom. The design based on Mandala, representing the universe with main principal stupa. Some basic explanation for the main stupa. It represents the mythical Mount Meru, center of the universe, which is the heavenly abode build by the God Indra to enshrine relics of the Buddha. The surrounding stupas represent mountain ranges around Mount Meru, and the moat symbolizes the cosmic ocean of infinity.

- ASAS-SN (K. Z. Stanek (Ohio State University) et al.; ATel #9669)
- Yukio Sakurai (Mito, Japan; via TOCP page)
Discovery magnitude:
- ASAS-SN: V~13.7, using quadruple 14-cm "Cassius" telescope at CTIO
- Sakurai: 10.4 unfiltered CCD, using Nikon D7100 digital camera + 180-mm f/2.8 lens
Discovery date:
- ASAS-SN: 2016 October 25.02 UT
- Sakurai: 2016 October 26.380 UT
Coordinates (2000.0): R.A. 18 20 52.25 Dec. -28 22 12.1 (from VSX)
Spectra: Spectroscopy indicating that ASASSN-16ma is a classical nova in the optically thick (Fe-curtain) stage was obtained 2016 Oct. 27.5 UT by P. Luckas (International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research, Univ. of Western Australia; ARAS Group; ATel #9678).

Chart of the location of PNV J18205200-2822100 (labelled Nova Sag 2016) as seen from the SSO scopes, the rectangle is the field of view of T12. The star next to Nov Sag 2016 is magnitude 6. Also shown is TCP J18102829-2729590 (labelled Nov Sag 2 2016)
so two nova exploded in Sagittarius, both near the teapot of Sagittarius. One, PNV J18205200-2822100,has been slowly increasing in brightness and has now broken the unaided eye brightness threshold of magnitude 6.0, with the latest report from New Zealand of 5.4.
PNV J18205200-2822100 is in the "teapot" of Sagittarius between Kaus Borealis (lambda Sagittarii and Kaus Media (delta Sagittarii), Howevere, it is just at the limit of scope trave just before astronomical twilight, giving a very narrow window of imaging.
