I was always wondering about that kind of sphere which is projected on the Earth's surface (Mars too, slightly) just below the vessel whenever I run Orbiter (see the screenshot below). It seems to be related to the horizon haze. The sphere disappears when I switch the horizon haze off.

Does anybody know a solution how to make that sphere projection disappear?

My graphics card is an Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX. I use the latest driver.

It's not a sphere projected, but a hole in a sphere of the haze.
The thing is perfectly normal by itself, if it bothers you, then there might be something wrong with contrast or video card settings, or an excess of attention on your side.

Yes. This is a better description.

Why is it perfectly normal by itself? I did not find any Orbiter screenshots which show that annoying "hole" within the atmospheric haze.

I tried every possible video card settings which did not fix that visual issue.

I think I'll try Orbiter on a different computer to see if that issue might be related to my video card.

Possible that your card or the driver is at fault, it looks like a Z-Buffer problem.

Right, that's the way it should look normally, the thing is there, but not that noticeable:

Have you installed some sky enhancing add-on?
One thing i can think of is that an add-on replaced the default haze texture or earth.cfg atmosphere config.

Is it present in a clean Orbiter install?

Well, a clean install of Orbiter did fix the issue finally. I think it was one of the sky enhancing addons I tried a while ago. Now I don't have any of such visuals at all. Everything looks nice and clean.

Thanks for the help. I'm very glad it was not my video card...
