Comments

I appreciate Fly-by-Wire is eye-watering out of date, but I'm unable to find any other joystick addon for Orbiter that works with my setup. Since the Orbiter 2024 release, I've seen reports of broken joysticks due to API changes. Fly-by-Wire has also lost a lot of its button mappings (Kill Rot, Prograde etc. were mappable to joystick buttons) that were available in Orbiter 2016 with its XR1 addon. Starting Orbiter 2016, Fly-by-Wire didn't respect the AF Control and RCS Mode settings, applying control inputs even they were turned off.

I've dug through the sources provided by the author in the addon zip and found a specific XR1 control Preferences file, which is possibly ancient. The sources are installed in the Docs folder and are under the GPL licence. The addon zip is here: https://www.orbiter-forum.com/resources/fly-by-wire-0-9-1-beta.3339/.

@dbeachy1 would you be open to updating the XR1 preferences in the source and recompiling the addon with Orbiter 2024 SDK? I'm aware @Gondos is looking at native joystick support for Orbiter next but having a workaround in the meanwhile would be invaluable. For me personally, a bug-fixed Fly-by-Wire as is would have all the functionality needed in a native joystick client, so time invested here might help Gondo's efforts too!

I'm happy to send logs and compensate people for their time spent on bug-fixing this!

Hi, I'm not familiar with this Fly-By-Wire add-on and I don't have time (or the inclination, TBH 😁) to take ownership of that old Fly-By-Wire add-on. However, maybe someone else here on the forum would be interested in doing that. Good luck! :)
