If you're not familiar with this legendary series of combat flight sims, a long time ago there was a Falcon, then 3 more versions of it, then it essentially became abandonware and has had continued development for a decade by various groups. There was an open version, and a free version, and a red version and so on... but now there is another version of it and one that has been rumoured for a very long time - rumoured that although it existed (a teaser video was 'leaked' onto youtube a year ago) it would never be released.

Despite the many nay-sayers, BMS, otherwise known as Dark falcon (most likely because its been developed in "secret") was released - just like earlier today or something.

While I haven't tried it, I expect I will, as it might actually allow me to play falcon again, as it has been re-engined so it can talk to more modern cards and drivers - something which freefalcon has a real hard time with, i think it still uses DX6. It is also alleged to have the best flight modelling and overall simulation as well as the fancy self shadowing cockpit and other immersive graphical tweaks.

Why should I want to play it? Not only is it a solid simulation of the classic F16 but it sets this within an amazing real time dynamic campaign, there are no set missions and you never know whats going to happen next. It has always been a bug-ridden complicated thing though, perhaps this version is more stable than some of the others. If you try it, let us know how you get on with it.

I have spent some time on it now, and its a great simulator, the amount of work that has gone into it is impressive and there are some detailed notes on the flight modelling and FLCS on the bms website that might be of interest to some of you. It runs very smoothly on my modest rig too.

Coming back onto the sim, It looks and feels like the old falcon, only improved in every respect, it's very stable too... While i'm sure it will be improved even further over the coming years this is the best version to date imho.
