Hi,
I have a question, so I am wondering how you can make the Apollo capsule look more like the photo seen bellow. (Look bellow) I was trying to make the CSM look more realisitic in turn, the capsule became red. Screenshot (473).png

You can get that effect using the D3D9 debug settings. Select that mesh group and use the Metalness shader.
Try values for Smoothness and Metalness around 0.97. The CM "cone" is basically smooth metal, almost a mirror. So you want values close to 1.0

I just did that and I get this, I'm not sure if this is accurate.

Seems very dark in the first place, looks like the whole ship is in shadow ?

First thing check where the Sun is relative to the spacecraft and the planet/moon you're orbiting. Recreating the precise set of conditions on the photograph you posted is not that easy, you need to orient the CSM the same way with the Sun being roughly at the same angle. You might need a bit of trial and error. Also keep in mind that 60's color film behavior is a bit different from a "godlike video camera" you have on a simulator.

I guess the metalness pbr shader is here to stay. I can probably make an update based on previous work, if I have time.

Therre is downside to high relection: It only llooks cinematik near a planetary body. In deep space it just reflects the blackness of space.
So you get a black spacecraft in black space. Realistic, but maybe not what you want.

This is why I eschew spacecraft reflections to fly safely. Of course, I will use spacecraft reflections to take cinematic pics only.

It may look weird, but the real thing looks a bit odd too.

What's missing is the normal and bump maps to handle texture of the foil strips up close. It's a mirror finish, but not a perfectly smooth surface.

This is what I got, playing a little bit with bump and reflection textures.

ok I have played a lot, my guilty pleasure I guess...

pretty satisfied with it to be honest.

but still not finished :giggle:

thank you rock. appreciate your opinion and the pic. here's one for you

seams ? you talking about command module, right, not the service ?
mine, for now at least, looks way overemphasized, cartoon like :D something like this almost

I'll see what I can do. Since I'm not a real graphic expert, I give my best. Perhaps that isn't enough thou :D
I spend into all this a lot of hours that some with better knowledge/program could do in 1/10th of time
(perhaps I should just zip it all and send it to you huh:D)
anyway... I know it's far from being great, it's just better, with all due respect to mod creators, than the original.
Not sure why they didn't simply add bump and reflection textures to the mod thou...
maybe since mod has started before D3D9 Client support and later they forgot about it, or simply didn't bother.
