Today is the 50th anniversary of Stanford Prison Experiment conducted by Philip Zimbardo. I learnt about this experiment a year or so ago, but can't remember much details. What I know is that several people were put into a prison and after some years, they tried to break out from the prison. Do you know anything about the experiment? Let me know in the comments.

I know the Vault-Tec 'social experiments' from the Fallout franchise were a lot inspired by it.

I think it was in August, and it only ran for a few weeks.


The experiment was about what "average" people will do to their peers, if given power or an excuse for hurting someone. Later, some of the findings were called into question because of selection bias. Also, this experiment is often held up as an example when the topic of ethics in psychological experiments comes up.
